Shooter on a Budget by Christopher Wong

[raw]
made by Christopher Wong for LD 44 (JAM)

A shooter game about shooting enemies, taking financial risks, managing your budget and a somewhat absurd amount of ATM machines.

You play as "Budgit", a robot that runs on coins. Your mission is to defeat the boss hidden deep within one of the dungeons in this open world game. But watch out, almost everything you do costs money. Run out of money in your wallet and it's game over (unless you have a credit card ... ).

Controls: WASD to move, mouse to aim/shoot, number keys to swap weapons, spacebar to dash.

Man, what else can I say about this game. THE MOST FUN I HAVE WITH AN LD44 SUBMISSION THIS YEAR! I have played the game for over 20 minutes now and I can't seem to exit out of it. Congrats!

Fun simple shooter, the gun upgrade I was looking at cost like 5x what I had at the time, seemed like it would take playing for awhile to get it. Liked the music, matched the rest of the style of the game very well.

That was great. I love the graphics, simple yet effective. All graphics and audio just work really well together. Also it just felt satisfying in general. The text at the right was a bit small and hard to read though.

Great little twin stick action!
The art is a little barebones but the rest of the gameplay works smoothly. I liked the huge map and variety in weapons and upgrades. The shooting mechanics and the collecting of coinds feel rewarding.

What I didn't like was the huge transaction covering the right part of the screen. Also, the enemies were walking and fyling through the thorned walls, which was annoying, because the shotgun kept shooting them through the map and I couldnt follow them. Coins and such could also be stuck in a thorn wall :/

All in all, very satisfying!

Such a fun twin stick shooter. The concept is a very direct extension of the theme, but it's super fun, so I love it. The transaction record on the side was very amusing. In the future, don't make things that hurt you so nice looking, lol I injured myself quite heavily on the orbs, I thought they would do something nice if I grabbed it.

Weird aesthetic for a funny game. I like the way you manage the chosen theme. The main gameplay is funny. A good action game - well done ++

@duke Thanks for the suggestion! We'll definitely add some way to disable the transaction panel on the side on a future update.

It works as a shooter but the movement is very slow. The map is also needlessly large, there isn't enough content/enemies to warrant that much space. If the shops and enemies were closer together, then the loop of earning -> spending -> earning more etc. would be faster and more enjoyable.

as mentioned the coins get stuck but i could collect those coins all day. I love tht coin sound I accidentally put all my money into the bank and died. just like real life lol

@saucygames Thanks! Spent around 15 minutes in bfxr trying to get the perfect coin sound.

Very cool! Instantly satisfying gameplay, not the most experimental interpretation of the theme, but still very fun.

I had so much fun playing this. The only complaint I can think of is that the coin sound is too loud, aside from that I think the game is solid.

Good job!
