I really think that more feedback when interacting with objects would help a lot to improve the whole feeling of the game, for example making smooth transitions or very clear graphical changes when clicking on the elements. Also, when traveling I don't think it's really necessary to take a lot of time, you can do the transition very quickly to keep the player interested about the game itself, at least between traveling and fights. You should consider polishing the idea and releasing a alpha version to a small community on Steam and improving upon feedback.
