This is my entry for LD40.

cover.jpg

Just pick up the hearts to finish the levels. You need the exact number to pass the level, no more, no less. The more hearts, the more monsters.

The mechanics are inspired by Fidel Dungeon Rescue (which is a very good game and you should check it out).

Arrows to move, Z to rewind. Escape to exit.

For some reason the game won't let me go to the next level when I have all 4 hearts — only when I have 3.

@deshipu Yeah, that it's not well explained, you need the exact number of hearts.

This is quite fun, I player the entire thing. The puzzles were fun, to be honest I wish there were more. The graphics and audio would need some work but the game itself is amusing, I might get addicted to this :3

The game is fun, but a little confusing at first. An indication of extra hearts would be cool.

i really like the style and had a good time playing. I played through the whole game without any problems. Would be nice if the monsters would make the progress a little more difficult. I really like that you added the rewind. Good job!

## Praise

The puzzles are well designed and offer a fun amount of difficulty. If you make a bunch of levels and release this on mobile I would definitely play it.

## Suggestions

Some animation for the characters would be great. It could also use a tutorial explaining how the monsters are added. It isn't hard to figure out, but it does present an unnecessary burden on the player.

Cool puzzle. I didnt get the dynamic of the monsters spawning in the directon one was walking to get the hearts. After that, it was fairly easy to clear the game.
Has a nice retro feel to it.
I would only maybe add some music. Other than that, just more levels to play :)

Really good puzzle, could use more polish and better explanation but the core gameplay is solid.

Yeah! I won! Great game, levels and idea, it's really similar to Fidel but with his own touch. I love Fidel. The graphics can be improved and here you got a great game in progress. Congrats for it!

Fun to play, fun to learn, fun to master. Just left me wanting a little more in terms of length!

overall graphics is good but level design leeks of strategy, maybe too easy ... i just have to explore some path without thinking so much to complete levels...
Obviously good level design for this kind of game takes a lot of time and it could be a great game !

@nax-89 Thanks for playing. I'm not from Argentina, I'm from Cuba currently living and working in México. The creator of Fidel play this game and like it, maybe with better graphics and a little more time to put on the design of the levels make a good game worth of publishing.

@mgsx Yeah, I know that the levels are easy, and a blind folded strategy works, I just didn't have enough time to design the levels well. I think this was only a way to prove the mechanics and see if it works. Thanks for playing anyway.

My wife was very disappointed when the levels ran out because it is her sort of game. I myself thought it was a very solid and well implemented game. Hopefully you will take it further.

Nice mechanics, but it gets too overwhelming when the board grows, there are simply too many possibilities, and the number of choices grows exponentialy. I would prefere a hard puzzle using a smaller grid (is this possible to do with this mechanics?).
Overall, good work!

@eric-florio Yeah, it's possible to some extent. There is a moment in which you need bigger board, however a board of 5x5 or 6x6 should be enough for a considerable number of puzzles. In this case I just want to test the different sizes and see how it goes. Thanks for playing.

I enjoyed your game. I had no problem figuring out the direction in which the monsters spawned, like a previous comment. I didn't realize you couldn't have extra hearts, until I returned to this page, and read that part (I had just jumped right in.) Once I knew that, I was able to continue on my way. I like your simple, enjoyable, strategy, puzzle game. It was fun, and I did not think it got overwhelming, at all. Once I knew you had to have the exact number, it wasn't difficult to me. Also, the implementation of the z button is huge - great addition. Otherwise, this might be tedious. It's small things like that which matter. Thanks for an enjoyable experience.

I took a picture of my victory, but I don't know if I should post it here, to spoil how to beat final level. You can let me know what you think about that.

I like the gameplay, and the concept behind it is pretty cool. Very simple, and easy to understand, but fun. The one criticism I have in terms of gameplay is the inconsistent difficulty curve. I found later levels, with more hearts, to be easier than the earlier levels. It may have been a good idea to enlist a tester to find which levels are the hardest.

I also feel like their could have been some more visual polish and effects, which would have added a lot.

Good work overall!

Awesome game man! There where times that the game wouldn't let me finish the level and I wasn't sure why, I had all the hearts and everything O_o

Solid game, congrats on the entry!

@cubeeo Hi, thanks for playing the game. The idea of the game was simply to test the mechanic, and I guess it work well based on the comments. Probably I spend some time trying to make other puzzles that I find interesting. I know about the lack of in-game information about the exact number of heart that the player need to pass the level, but I decided to leave it that way since I had already uploaded the game and was a few hours after the deadline that I realize the mistake. It's also not a big deal I guess.
About the picture, I guess you can post it, at the end there are many solutions to each puzzle and it probably encourage the players to find other solutions.

@terracottafrog Thanks for playing. Yeah, I should've put more attention to the design of the puzzles and the curve of difficulty levels. About the graphics, I've almost 0 skills to make art, and even for this game, I spend more time making the sprites than writing the code. I guess I should practice more, and get a better at it.

@rombus Thanks for playing. Probably was because you has more hearts than you need to finish the level. The UI of the game doesn't tell you that you picked up more hearts than you needed, that is my bad.

A very nice puzzle game, the levels were a bit easy, and some music would have been nice, but otherwise: Very good. Nice job.

That was a nice game. If you really wanted the player to have exactly the number of hearts needed to finish the level and not even one more, you should have probably put it into interface. I still don't know why though, because if the game is harder with more hearts, but still solvable, you should go for collect-everything approach. Still that was nice.

@zinkler I know what you say about the number of hearts. To be honest, I didn't put much thought on that, probably implementing the mechanics and doing the art. It would probably be a better game having to collect all hearts. I also thought of other mechanics in regard the monsters which I didn't have time to implement. Thanks for playing anyway.

I usually do not like puzzle games, but this one is really well executed (for the short duration of the jam), maybe a little bit music will be nice. Very good Job

I finished!

OK, this is cool. I don't know how much of the mechanic comes from Fidel as I haven't played it, but this is cool.

The instructions are missing something: that you can't touch your own path.

One thing I'm not sure I liked is that you need to pick a heart to see where do monsters spawn with it. That makes planning a bit difficult. However, I may be complaining just because I'm a bit hasty; a more patient player may simply pick the hearts, see the consequence and undo if necessary; after all, that's what the button is there, I guess.

Overall, this is a good entry!
