ShapeShifter by NPException

[raw]
made by NPException for LD35 (JAM)
Welcome to ShapeShifter!

You are a street racer and something messed with your gearbox.
Your gears are now marked by weird shapes...

ShapeShifter was created by ChaosChaot, spriteman and me, NPException.
Comments appreciated. Don't hesitate to leave a link to your own entry as well!

How does the game work:

Each round a new gear shape will be added to your shift sequence.
You have to remember the shapes or you will eventually lose the race.

Shift through your gear sequence as fast as you can, so that you stay ahead of your opponent!

Controls:

All mouse. Use it to drag the stick your desired gear.

PS: Sorry for the weird sounds and lack of music, we did not have enough time for them. But we will add proper audio after the Jam.

PPS: As you might have guessed, we aimed this game to be suited for mobile devices. Please keep that in mind before you yell "What a stupid resolution!". If you still want to yell that afterwards, feel free to do so, :D

Controls felt very fluid, also loved the play on "shift". It got surprisingly difficult to memorize after around 3 symbols for me!

What a stupid resolution!
Just kidding. :P Very nice game, simple in concept but difficulty ramps up greatly. I fell in love with the visuals, nice of you to have driver selection. I also like the fact that races show you the actual cars running with speed relevant to the gear, and so little mistakes don't lose you the game immediately like you'd expect in conventional memory games. Overall nice work, it will look great on mobile.

I actually considered doing something like this but I chickened out. It works pretty well, but I could never tell WHEN to shift. The engine sound didn't seem to have anything to do with it, and there is no rev counter. By the way, pressing space automatically wins the round.

(Oh, and granny shifting jokes? You know that double-clutching is only useful on gearboxes without syncromesh right? Or maybe that wasn't supposed to be a Fast & the Furious joke)

I really, really enjoyed this game. I somehow managed to win 10 rounds.. only just lost 11. I seemed to get better over time, great game.

Cool idea, and a pretty good play on words with the theme. I felt so comfortable on round 7, like I really mastered it, and then totally fell apart on round 8.

@nintendoeats: yeah, I used that for debugging purposes and forgot to remove it before submitting. ^^

I liked the graphics, but the game was awkward to control for me (web version) and it's basically simon says, which isn't bad but also not new.

Hi, nice game ! We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #35.
Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description
