gameplay.gif

Satan is seeking to take over the earth, and to do so, he has released all of the souls contained within, in an attempt to wreak havoc on the living.

You play as the Grim Reaper, and you are not pleased with Satan's choice to free all of the souls you've collected for him over the millennia. He broke the contract, and your goal is to collect all of the souls before they can escape.

The restless souls, angry for their time spent in the bowels of the earth, will not be captured without a fight. Should you last long enough, garner new skills and improve your weapon's capability until you deem yourself strong enough to battle Satan himself.

HOW TO PLAY - WASD/Arrow Keys - Movement - Left Mouse Button - Swing Scythe - Right Mouse Button - Throw or retrieve Scythe - Q - Show Stat Upgrades Shop - E - Show Scythe Shop

CREDITS - Psychobagger - Artist (Piskel) - Sanavesa - Programmer (Unity) - DeviantArt for Tiles/Background Art - Freesound.org for SoundFX - “Chiptune Throne Room – Eight Bit/8-bit” by TechnoAxe for Game Music - “Hoshi Hana - Tough Fight” for Menu Music - Rogue Legacy for the training dummy - WoW for the Icons - Diablo for the Font

HINTS - Your soul meter is your health bar. Be careful of over-upgrading! - You can deflect incoming fireballs if you swing your scythe at the right time!

CHANGE LOG - Fixed movement bug

If anyone (mainly artists/musicians/designers) is interested in working with us to continue the game, please DM Sanavesa on Discord at Sanavesa#1729. Thanks!

Joined late and didn't finish the game, but we're proud of the progress we achieved!

Honestly though that was fun. More polish would be needed but overall I loved it! Great concept and pleasant control, really wanted a doublejump lol.

Still seemed like you had quite a bit done for the game. It was pretty easy in the end, and I did notice that I was getting stuck on the floor constantly. Other than that it looked very nice. Too bad you couldn't finish it.

Music and atmosphere are very good. There are a few wonky hitboxes on the ground that prevent movement, and the camera following the thrown scythe makes the camera movement a bit too finicky. Otherwise, the upgrade system is smooth, maybe bind the upgrade and scythe menus to keys closer to WASD so you dont have to take your hand off the mouse. Also, on the final boss, i cant really see the health bar. But great job!

Seems cool. I like that you can slap the ranged attacks back. Few bugs - kept getting stuck walking around, and lost the ability to attack.

Awesome game! I really had a great time playing this. I just wish there was more (or maybe an endless mode)- just when I was getting super powerful it ended :(

But anyways, great job folks! Your game feels great to play and has nice graphics / audio. :)

EDIT: Also wanted to mention that I really liked the take on the theme.

Nice entry! I love your direction with the theme.
There seems to be a few bugs with the physics - I kept getting stuck on apparently nothing while walking.
I would have liked the boss fight to be a bit more mobile - I just stood there and slashed at his legs until he died.
Overall, I enjoyed it - good work!

Those throwing animations are really satisfying to watch. Controls feel a bit sluggish however

Cool game, I beat Satan! Looks and plays really nice. The combat needs a little fine tuning. I didn't use the throw move at all, it didn't seem reliable, I mostly just hit the fireballs back at enemies or charged in and slashed at them. The upgrades were fun.

Excellent use of the theme. I really liked the trade off of more health vs more power. I really enjoyed the art, especially the souls bar. The music was also great. I would love to see a more fleshed out boss battle, I ended up just sitting in a corner and chucking my scythe well rebounding his attacks.

Man, you KNOW I had to bring myself to 1HP to get the Edgelord!

Haha, but seriously though this game looks really nice! I especially like the awesome particle effects that come out of some of the higher level scythes. The gameplay itself was also pretty satisfying (especially when I threw my scythe into a line of enemies).

I kind of wish there was a better way for me to dodge incoming enemy fire, though. More often then not I would be forced to take some damage if the fireball was too high to jump over and I was in a narrow corridor.

But other than that, I like the idea here. :)

Great game! The effects were nifty and the trade off for upgrades felt balanced. My only thought would be to differentiate the background color a bit more from the main character.

It was short burt it was fun to play your game. The combat system is nice, especialy when you buy some upgrades. It was a bit to easy to win the game.

The gameplay was a lot of fun. The upgrade system is really nice. I like that it is very versatile and there is enough to upgrade through the course of the game. This keeps the player engaged (Well, me anyways :D).
Very nice entry, good job!

I really think you should keep working on this one. It feels great to play, the design is excellent, and the idea still has a lot more you can do with it. My only complaints are that it was pretty short and kind of easy, but as a prototype this is a 10/10. I love it.

Visually pleasing and fun, good use of theme! Love the particle magic effects, the UI and the overall vibe. Where was the music from?

02. May 2019 · 05:03 UTC
@amerigo-gazaway Thanks for the feedback. The menu music is "Hoshi Hana - Tough Fight". As for the game music, its "Chiptune Throne Room -- Eight Bit/8-bit" by TeknoAxe on youtube.

What you can improve:
* more balancing between souls retrieive after kill monsters, I switch a lot between menu and game because I reached the soul cap too quickly
* some typo (last scythe is 19 souls and not 20)
* add stats for scythe because at first I don't understand why it was important to upgrade
* add more levels
* specify the amount of souls to spent for upgrading player

Nice work! It's a fun mechanic, although it is pretty easy to heal and purchase upgrades. I got pretty overpowered pretty quickly by immediately upgrading my soul capacity, then buying the strongest scythe, haha.

I feel like the camera could be improved by having it not follow the scythe so strictly.

Keep it up.
