Aleam Ludere - Play at Dice by gi11

Controls: * WSAD - Movement * Space - Roll Dice * Mouse1 - Shoot * Aim with Mouse

Play as a dice wielding cowboy who got caught cheating using loading dice. To take your turn, press space to roll a dice. The AP you get will allow you to either move or shoot. If you get caught three times, it's game over.

My take on the theme is a turn-based, top-down western shooter.

Cool system! Took a few tries to figure out but was fun afterward. Music is great! Fullscreen wasn't working.

Took me a little bit to figure out how the dice rolling actually played into the mechanics but I enjoyed it once I got the hang of them. Nice work!

Interesting idea. Was a bit confusing when I was hitting the enemies and they wouldn't die, but figured it out. Would be neat if the dice was rolled for attack damage too or skills. Great Jam. keep up the good work.

Nice combination, the music and graphics set the mood perfectly! One thing though is that if you spam mouse one you can just spew infinite dice. Otherwise, great game!

Interesting take on a "real-time turned-based" game. As others were saying, it took me a while to figure out that I needed to press space to roll the dice AFTER I ran out of AP. Also, I liked the tagline when your character gets caught, "Live by die, die by the dice" haha. Overall, very creative game!

Great music. I couldn't quite figure our how the die roll and the turn timing synced up. I think I get what you are going for, though, and it's a really neat way to operate a turn-based system. And it fit really well with the setting. Great work!

@corc0 Thanks. Yeah, I'm not sure why fullscreen stopped working but thanks for trying it out.

@Silvae Thanks. Yeah I can see how it can be confusing at the start. Will def spend more time explaining in future jams.

@WalterP Thanks. I was planning on adding those things but really started to run out of time.

@Danny88881 Thanks. That is an interesting bug. I'll spend some time trying to figure out why that happened.
@Gizmolo Thanks. I'll definitely spend more time explaining next time.

@Jamblefoot Thanks. Like everyone else mentioned, I will definitely spend more time explaining next time.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Quite an interesting idea with rolling the die to move & shoot, it wasn't very obvious though how far I could move and when I had used up my AP. Certainly had an element of challenge to it, though.

so small and hard to see...the theme was fun. game play was not bad, felt like the dice roll was slow and enemies kept moving so made it hard. still not to bad.

It's so tiny! It took a few moments to understand that dice rolling was to get AP, and for a few levels I started to think moving was pointless since it's always better to shoot than run away. But then enemies started shooting back, and I feel like that's where the game really shines, having to roll dice before you can run, and making sure to run out of the way of enemy dice before firing back. I wonder if there's some good strategy with this that I haven't figured out, like holding onto AP for a moment to dodge before rolling dice again, but with the cooldown between dice rolls I'm not sure that would work.

I couldn't really understand all the mechanics, including the roll dice with SPACE, what's the use of it ?
I ended up shooting dices like crazy, which is quite fun. But yeah, maybe the all thing needs to be a little bit easier to understand ? The mix of dices and shoot is fun !

@Blinkenlights Thanks. I ran out of time before I was able to make it more obvious what was happening.

@BlazeDragon Thanks. I updated the page to make it easier to see.

@differentname Thanks. I've updated the view size. Yeah, I agree the first few levels were kind of slow, but I wanted to use them to get use to the world. It is actually kind of easy to win, once you get use to it.

@Elmeri THanks. I ran out of time before a tutorial. The dice was supposed to mimic table top dice rolling. Maybe it should have been more obvious.

Thanks

Was confused at first sight, but I got into it pretty quickly. Most confusions caused that 'space' for rolling dice, as I don't really know what this should do. After I found out that I can shoot without rolling, I was unstoppable :) Would be great if you could add some more content, as it will get repetitive quite soon (but we have the same problem with our game ;)). Overall Great Job!

Really cool game concept and it was a lot of fun. After I realized that I can constantly push space to spam my enemies with dices it was much easier but at some point I could not more dodge the dices of the enemies.
Maybe the player could have have a kind of cover if the enmies are shooting all at the same time.

Was that the last level or could you go further afterwards? :D

Its cute. I mean I spammed my space bar to make dices and just overwhelmed my opponents. But Well it was nice.
