My Dream by Local Minimum

[raw]
made by Local Minimum for LD 39 (JAM)

With the little time I had for this Ludum, I still couldn't stand the thought of missing out. So rationally I decided to write this little twine story with the help of @picapica.

I hope you enjoy. It is short and it is my first attempt at twine.

Not sure if this is running. I just get a black screen on itch.io.

Very interesting story and the sometimes disjointed pacing was very effective. Glad you joined in, even if you didn't have much time :)

@simonhutchinson It should just be a matter of allowing the javascripts, perhaps something is blocked?

I got it working (likely some privacy settings, I tried on a different machine). Nice work. I'm interested in the expressive possibilities of Twine, but I'm never sure what to do when faced with the vast possibilities of text. Great little adventure.

Hey !

Your game might be simple but it managed to mess my brain up just fine ! ;)

Interesting story. It's quite hard to decipher what's really happening. Like you're trying to picture it in your head but then it doesn't add up with the next sentence you get.

Overall very interesting idea !

Fun and unique idea(have not seen any text based adventure game on LD39 so far), the story is great.

Interesting game! I played through twice. I wonder what parts of the story I missed. I like the eeriness and story.

Wow, I like the story. Actually it is an interesting idea. Didn't found it's hard to to understand the plot. It's a dream. Good job. :hand_splayed:

Quite an interesting narrative piece. I like how you told the story in chunks, like the words were actually coming out of a person, not a machine. The battery icon is clear and makes sense. The story is interesting and really pulls you in, which is of course essential in a game like this. Nice job.

Love the concept. Seems a little bit surreal. Great work on the writing.

I like it! The inevitability of acceptance is a nice punchline. Good job.

Wow, very innovative storytelling, I like the fact that there is text popping up between the text that's already on the screen, words changing when you click them, makes the story very dynamic and more interesting than just the story on itself.

I felt that the story became a little bit disjointed in some places, not sure if that was the point, I can see it working well with a little bit absurd storytelling but it was a bit hard to find the core of the story.

Some minimalistic background music could have worked excellently here, but the storytelling had a lot of strength even without audio.

Actually there is no any gameplay, only story. It would nice if you have add some illustrations.

The game certainly can be confusing but it is to be expected. My brain seems not to be working too well today and trying to imagine the situation wasn't that easy but it doesn't change the fact that the game is completely different from rest of LD39's games and the concept is unique among them. Great job, you've just made me do something more than just click "Fire" button and kill another enemy ;)

Please check my team's game in free time (even though our concepts are totally different):

Interesting interactive fiction. It felt like reading a living poem and fit well with the theme. Nice.

Aw man, what a neat way of doing a text adventure. Games, as an art form, tend to contain lots of different mediums within themselves (music, cinematography, etc) but you so rarely get to see poetry put into a game, let alone it be the core concept. A strong entry with a lot of choice and content for just 48 hours! Keep up the good work. :)

This was certainly an interesting game, and a nice change in pace from most of the other Ludum Dare games I've marked so far.

It wasn't entirely clear exactly what to do initially, but I think I got the hang of it.

I'm not sure whether I liked that you had to play multiple times to build up a picture of the whole story, but it was interesting.

Well it's a different kind of game, liked the mood of the game but I'm not sure I'm into the poetry stuff. Good job though with the game.

Interesting story, sure sounds like my life although I try to keep a power bank with me. But seriously this was refreshing to "play" after playing through other LD entries, and its the second twine entry I've seen. Short and sweet!

Pretty interesting story, and a nice little interactive experience. Wasn't really fun, but the text carried the experience for me. However, I thought the battery mechanic was kind of incomprehensible, and I could never finish the story because the battery would run out on me.

Always enjoy seeing what you come up with and like how each of your entries feels unique from the ones before. The writing in this was really nicely done and the surreal aspect of it was great at setting the mood. Liked that atmosphere of the public bus ride where everyone is so involved with their own phones and you see the same people but have no connections. Was well conveyed. The battery graphic at the top was also nicely done in twine. Always wanted to try twine and this just makes me want to try it even more.

Oh wow. Unique and strange is an understatement <3
I loved loved loved how much technical stuff made it into this, fantastic use of twine!
And the storytelling was very cinematic. The battery charger was a great touch. The cycling ~~buttons~~, ~~text~~, soulful descriptions are so very impactful <3

Thank you for this, top marks!

Dang, that was heavy. And an accomplishment in extending beyond the basics of the engine. Really honed the craft that, indeed.

I... honestly didn't get it much, playing through it feels like a draining experience(that must be the point, I suppose), but it's a feat and it's moody as heck.

Very well done.

I like it when Twine games can impart an atmosphere like this, it felt a little oppressive and the confusing (which was perhaps the idea?).

I sometimes felt like I was skipping large parts of it, as it wasn't clear if a word would change or take me to somewhere else. I suspect this was partially done on purpose, but I guess the downside is I felt like I was missing out on the story, maybe it was designed for multiple playthroughs?

Nice work with this Twine game! (though I'm reminded I never did that postmortem I said I was going to >_<)

The use of a mobile phone running out of battery is a lot more relatable than how most of the games I've seen used the theme, which is a clever idea, and the use of timed text also helps make the game more dynamic. I hope all the different formats you used helped you get a grip with the functionality of Twine, it looks like a pretty cool system!
