Sacriflag

sacriflag.gif

Sacriflag is a puzzle game. You need to reach the flag in each level.

At the beginning of each level, you have some points to assign. Here are the three stats:

  • Stamina : Required to move, 1 point for normal tiles, 2 points for full forest tiles
  • Strength : Required to cut trees using an axe (2 points), or pushing a rock (1 point)
  • Wisdom : The amount of points you will earn when doing an action (moving, cutting a tree, or pushing a rock)

You can sacrifice two points to re-assign all remaining points. This is how you will have high scores (assign your wisdom wisefully!). If you don't like scoring, you can try to collect the gem in each level ;)

First impression: a great concept! Really nice use of the theme. :)

Now for pros:

• I like the various levels with increasing/different challenges,

• The sound is nice and not distracting,

• The concept is interesting but also challenging, it lives up to the "puzzle" genre!

*

And for some cons (or – hopefully constructive – criticism):

• I guess it's the price of the game's relatively complex mechanics, but the control keys are not very intuitive,

• And (this might just be me, though) I also find the arrows vs directions in-game slightly confusing (I went the wrong direction a few times because in-game, it felt like "up", but it wasn't)

And I think that's it! Overall I think you've done a great job with a unique idea and it's been enjoyable when trying to solve it. :)

Good game, keep it up!
PD: It's a bit confusing how arrow keys let you move arround (I lost to many stamina points trying to go where i wanted)

Cool game with nice music and art. The main guy was a bit weird looking and didn't understand how he fits into the setting. Otherwise a cool idea with the sacrifices.

One of my favorites so far. Any art style that reminds me of Q*Bert gets a win from me.

Nice game! I enjoyed collecting gems. I don't really like scoring but I understand how this game would be quite interesting for someone who want to get highest score :-)

excellent work! the controls were a little weird at first, but I got the hang of it soon enough. The gameplay is great, and the isometric graphics must have been hard to figure out, so kudos!!The levels were very clever! Lovely entry!

I like what you did here. I agree it is a bit weird at first. That is until you realize you're in control over everything with the points. That's actually a pretty cool mechanic and I'm going to change you original innovation score because of it!!! So Well done!!

@ursagames Thanks for streaming the game :)

100% corresponds to the developer score (we did not find the optimal solution each time haha). Congrats for the 3360% :crown:

Great game for a jam. I wasn't really seeing the point of the Sacrifice mechanic(I got to only level 5 btw). Because, if the player can remember all the steps involved, there would be no reason to use the Sacrifice. So that makes the theme "Sacrifices may be made" rather than "must be made". I could be totally wrong on this if it appears in the later levels.
The music was confusing. It starts off with a particular rhythm but suddenly changes later. It isn't consistent and doesn't do a great job for setting the mood.

It felt like Mekorama, if it was turn based.

Maybe a level reset mechanic could have worked wonders. That would have kept me more involved.

This game definitely has potential. And I'm sure it could've been done better if there was more time.

@therockripper Thank you ! There is a level reset mechanic (`ECHAP` key), we should have explained the controls better, sorry ;o

Fun puzzle game. I did not get the rules because I did not read the rules :D, then I found the game really fun and hard. How hard would be find the optimal strategy?

@krunoslav It depends ! We found the optimal strategy for the first few levels, but then it becomes really hard :cold_sweat:
The 100% score in game corresponds to the developers' best score, so you can have 200% or even more in the latest levels

Hey fellow français! o/

Interesting take on the theme, having to manage each stat point even to just move is a good and pretty original concept.
I went for a "collect gems" run but tried to sacrifice a bit. It was fun and I played multiple times some levels to try different ways to do things. I played on Firefox 64.0 and had no bug or problem, everything went smoothly.

The controls are correct and the keys are well chosen. Everything is pretty clear and intuitive. The only thing I would add is a way to unzoom the area. Even if you have the reset feature, it can seem a bit weird to have to go "around the map" to check were are the items and have to reset to really play. Was it the way the game was supposed to be played to add to the puzzle aspect of the game?

As for the music and sfx, they're pretty nice! The music especially, it's relaxing and it kinda reminded me of the J-POP band CAPSULE (more specifically, their song *I Wish You*.

The graphics are nice and well polished, be it the "scenery", the items or the character.

Anyway, great job! :)

Wow that was a really cool game! I loved the style to it, and it was very impressive that there was that much well balanced content in there! I think the music could have been slightly (veeeeery slightly) more tailored to the graphics, but they were still a pretty nice match. It was fun to play, and I enjoyed it all around. Amazing Job!

Interesting, at first I didn't understand concept and pass first levels with 0%. But then I thought "Oh!" and manage to finish first levels with 100% and 102%. Interesting implementation of
greedy sacrifice!

Ah, des français (: L'idée de répartir ses points dans des catégories était sympa, j'ai bien aimé. Les graphismes et les sons sont bien. Bravo ! :D
