Party Maker by Sempiternal

[raw]
made by Sempiternal for LD 40 (COMPO)

Hey there! This is my first Ludum Dare.. Well, actually, first ever game jam of any sorts But anyways, here's my attempt at creating a game in under 48 hours :D Music/sfx/3d models are all created by me, the source zip includes the Unity project.

Controls

  • WASD - move
  • hold 'shift' - run
  • 'space' - hit
  • 'f' - interact

Goals

Well, look at your fancy self at this amazing party over here woaaah. I guess it would be a good idea to grab a drink or something and see how the night goes ;p

Hints

You have to keep yourself intoxicated or you'll start losing health. The more intoxicated you are - the more point you get.. and you also demand more drinks too :p

psssst try attacking lonely people because if there's someone around them there's a chance they'll join in the wrestle.

Tools used

  • Unity engine
  • Blender for modeling of all the objects in game and animating the main character.. only character and all his clones ;p
  • Mixamo for rigging bc I suck at rigging myself
  • GIMP for texturing and whatnot
  • FL Studio 12 for music and SFX

It's a bit mature for jam where anyone can join, but still decent. I really liked how the game looked

It was a little hard to distinguish myself from the rest of the crowd, but I loved the intoxicated, unhinged atmosphere.

The dance animations were surprisingly good for a gamejam. Lots of little details among the NPCs. The fullscreen effects were slick, too.

Wow, really liking the vibe on this one. The graphics are top notch, nice job on those dance animations. With the down tempo beat and a strong adherence to the theme, this is a winner! Congrats on your first Ludum Dare - this is a great showing.

Good graphics but pretty boring

You did these animations yourself? If yes, it's cool.

@kurupapuru it's the compo, you have to do it all yourself

Love the graphics! Maybe its just my setup but things get a little pixelated when I put it in fullscreen. Those animations are fantastic! Great first Ludum Dare! Congrats on finishing!

Like the tone of the game, even though it's a little mature and dark. Cool submission, would like to see a fleshed out version of this!

I like the style! Nice work! I would consider not using the slow motion as much.

Very well done. Love the graphics & audio. Everything about this is professionally executed, but if you enjoy this game or not depends on your taste.

It is a little hard to find yourself at the beginig but beside that it is a solid game.

Everything about this is professionally executed. The sad part it's kongregate. Those ads made me a bit sad. I don't have time to download everything so I had to compromise.

* It's wonderful how you implemented the mechanics for the game, but that's not really suprising as I know drunkedness is gonna be a common theme. The music slowing down and pixelation also fits. You did give it a strategic thought and even gave advice to attack the lonely people. Good call.
* Every character that is not the main character is the main character's clones. That's one problem. They don't stand out from the crowd. I actually thought I was not controlling something at first until I find them. However, the atmosphere is great it gets your theme across.
* The slow motion is cool but it does get tiring after a few drinks. I say make it shorter the more drinks you have. Then again you need a breather from all of that beating up.
* Surprisingly, it does get boring after awhile. There's not much satisfaction from what you're doing despite how lovely it looks.
* Still, that's kind of sad to see you placed it on kongregate. I mean to passively earn money, sure. Though itch gives you a better place for a portfolio of games you made and I think a lot of people prefer that, to be honest. Also, you don't need that quit button in HTML5.
* You're not getting away from me seeing Gangnam Style in there.

I actually can't say much but good work. Impressive what you did there in 48 hours. Beautiful, but could be a lot better. You just need to find that perfect balance. I still recommend this for the atmosphere.

@fiakaiera, thank you for your feedback, it is very helpful! I should've taken a bit more time to polishing visuals/making some unique characters and a better fighting mechanics to keep the game fun but oh well.. I'll do better next LD!

As to hosting of my HTML5 version, I was in a huge rush during the submission process and simply couldn't get itch to properly host my game (or maybe I'm just stupid). I don't have Kongregate profile set up and it's not like I'd get any money from 20 ad views on my LD game ;p
I'll look into itch again and try to get it to work now!

[Okay, I figured out why itch wasn't working, I'm changing HTML5 link to itch.io]

WOW. It's quite impressive, that you made this game in 48 hours. Well done! The gamplay is a little to slow, but I still like it.

@sempiternal Alright. I see your reason. Thanks for allowing yourself to post it on itch. I hope the other would get a better experience with it now.

You could have uploaded the main exe file and source first. You're allowed to port after the submission date. Take that in mind next time.

Those animations, Amazing! Simply watching the initial scene was entertaining.

The gameplay could use something. I couldn't find a way to fight someone without at least taking one shot.

God damn. The premise of this game is actually what we had in mind when started our LD project. Cool game though. Soundtrack is extra thick and graphics are really nice too.

Simply amazing game. I very like the graphics, smooth gameplay and controls tip at the bottom. At first i was a little bit confused why i can't move, because i couldn't see my character at all. They are all almost same! Very good job.
