A small World à la No Man's sky by lavwa
Visit planets by landing and then clicking on them
Trade minerals for fuels
Find your small world

You can play the game here : Windows executable : https://www.dropbox.com/s/c0ksue8r1r1nz1f/Windows.rar?dl=1

A lot of bugs are fixed,
Monsters on enemy planets,
conquer planets now! Click on them to send shuttle full of soldiers !

Controls: ``` w/s : thrusters
a/d : rotate ship
q/e : strafe left/right
left shift (hold) : thruster boost
space : full brake
m : main menu (save, load, new game)
mouse wheel up/down : zoom in / out
leftClick on planet : enter planet when in range/landed
right click : toggle camera ship follow
middle click : drag the map
e : when in range near ship to return into space ```
Notes:
When you are on stuck on a planet, you can press SHIFT + W to give you extra boost, but it cost fuel.
If your ship spin out of control, use SPACE to stop the rotation.
Your fuel (gas and oxygen) is ticking even if you are landed, so don't take too much time to admire the planets and hurry to find yours !
The shield protect you from when a missile hit the ship or if you hit the surface of a planet too fast. You then lose % of your shield. If the shield is down, then it’s your fuel that you are losing, and at fuel==0, you lose the game ;)
Dev notes/how it works/under the hood
The planets are procedurally generated, it use about 100+ different planet textures, all monochrome, then use a material to add color. The minerals are also selected randomly and the particles systems are blinking with the corresponding mineral color (iron = red, gold = yellow, …)
Just to give an idea of some of the attributes of a planet : ``` new PlanetObject(planetName, pos2d, pos3d,width, height, mass,
planetTypeEnum,auraTransparency,planetColor,spriteIndex,timeRT,
mineralA,mineralB,oddsPlanetObject, playerStartingPosition,
playerShipStartingPosition,gravityFPS,sunSize); ```

There is so much going on here, I was impressed by the sheer scope of the game for a Jam. The Gravity system is a little wonky... I got caught a lot in spinning cartwheels of uncontrollably. Really cool entry though!
Still less buggy than the original No Mans Sky.

What I liked about the game
-2d+3d gameplay with different mechanics
-Nice mood with the combination of graphics and audio.
-Solid First person movement.
What I would like the game the game to have
-Enemies on the planets (with really simple AI just to make it more intense when you are on the planet)
-A bit more clarity about the shield mechanic (I wasn't sure what was the exact use of it)
-Transparent particles when the rocket exploded(sometimes the particles would hide my ship for a long time when I was touching the planet and I couldn't find the right rotation to leave the planet).
Overall it was fun to play with and different from the other games I played so far specially due to the 2d/3d gameplay you added, I am sure with a bit more time, this could be polished to be even better.
Good job
The planets are indeed procedurally generated, I created about 100+ planets textures, all monochrome, then use a material to add color. The minerals are also selected randomly and the particles systems are blinking with the corresponding mineral color (iron = red, gold = yellow, ...)
And for the shield, I forgot to explain it ;)
Basically, the when you hit a missile or hit the surface of the planet too fast, you will lose % of your shield. If the shield is down, then it's your fuel that you are losing, and at fuel==0, you lose the game ;)
I hate to be down on it (feel like I am way too critical tonight >.<) it was a bold entry and you got a lot done. If you continued with it, put in some more interesting mechanics in both space and on planets and cleaned up space movement it could be a real winner, just not something you can do in 72 hours.
Thanks for the game <3
Why do all these planets hate me so much though, they are fine when I exploit all of there resources but if I dare stand a reasonable distance away they want me dead.
Would love to see where you go with this game afterwards! Good luck!
It's really appreciated, it's our prize after all. I would like to change the gravity of the planets so it will be easier to lift up. I will upload a fix this weekend, as soon as I can :)
This and/or maybe add a small bouncy effect on the planet, so it will push you away when you try to leave. I will have to test it out ;)
@kantieno : I wanted to add a "pacifier" weapon you could throw on planets before landing, but I lacked time.
Here is the sprite :

Thanks again for your feedback !
Once the control issues are fixed I think this game could be a cool little gem.
Like said above, I like the thing you can fly your ship and actually land on the planets.
Awesome job!
I just have a few comments about some improvement room:
- The fuel mechanic would be more fun if based on usage instead of time. This way, instead of rushing planets to collect resources like "OMG fly fly fly need pellets OMG I'm gonna lose", it would be more about planning the trip, like "Maybe if I can make it to that planet, I can collect some rad resources. But I have fuel to make the trip? Can I reach a planet that trades it before I get stranded in space?"
- Sometimes the missle hits our ship and the explosion sprite doesn't let me see the ship anymore ><
Overall, great job!
I wish someday I can reach your skill level.
The controls could be improved as they feel a bit sluggish sometimes, but for only 72h they turned out pretty good. Furthermore, I found it very troublesome that the fuel lowered even when I was on a planet's surface or not moving.
Altogether very well done and I like it far better than No man's sky!
