Knight's Test by Kukareru Sekai

[raw]
made by Kukareru Sekai for LD 44 (JAM)

This is a story of a young man who has been forced to go through a test that is a lot more than what it seems. If he doesn't realize what he needs to do he will fail and pay the "ultimate price". I have been dealing with a lot of unresolved trauma and this is my way of expelling myself of that. I hope you enjoy the game and good luck finding the good ending and passing the test.

I lost a day because of my laptop suffering hardware issues, but I am lucky that I didn't lose everything. I had to cut a lot of content so I hope the story hits the way it is suppose to, but I made it to the goal regardless of the hardships. That's the ultimate victory.

This was made using GB Studio, an excellent piece of software that allows you to make actual Gameboy games. The track you may hear during the title screen was done in Milky Tracker and it was my first song in the software. If you can't hear it in-game check out the song in the video. The graphics I used were from the Dungeon Crawl asset by Steven Collings.

Play this game on the web (it's mobile friendly) or you are welcome to download the rom and play it on a Gameboy emulator of choice.

Looks like a lot of effort went into the authentic game boy pixel art. Nice work man.

Good job on this game.
A lot of reading is required but I suppose that is the purpose of this game.
Also I love the art style.
I am not rating you on the sound because I did not hear any.

Hello, I found the game interesting and there is a real good old time feel to it with the game boy theme respected. It is a shame that you weren't able to do everything you wanted. Good job anyway!

Well done for capturing the look and feel of a proper game boy game. It took me ages to understand the control system, for example 'press start' - I was frantically clicking around to try and get it to work. My favourite part was being able to talk to all the students during the test and them saying random stuff, felt very Pokemon like. I did not survive... :(

I have played several time and still tried to figure out the mechanics, may be it's because of my dumb haha. Btw sad for your PC hardware situation and glad that you can still finish the jam! Nice work!

Nice game! I never heard of GB Studio before, but I'm definitely trying it out soon!
The game has a very nice artstyle, it must've taken a lot of time to create all those assets. The gameplay is a bit too simple, but it provides a nice little experience. I would like to see a bit more action but I guess you ran out of time.

Overall well done!

I liked that you tried to put in something personal. Sometimes it was hard to understand who was talking, but i understand because you have very limited space. The mood and the dreamlike setting were very compelling.

Interesting game. I played through twice but didn't manage to figure out how to get the good ending.

Love that you made a game boy game for a game jam! Amazing stuff. I think the game looked great and I liked the old school music in the menu screen but it would have been great to get sounds throughout the game. Otherwise, good work :)

Love the Gameboy aesthetic, and you really made me want to try GB Studio out ! I also liked how so many caracters had stuff to say, listening to them all and going through the test was definitely an enjoyable experience. Great work !
