Will you finish the game post jam?
I played a while before understanding the controls fully. That is, I understood how to jump, but not the meaning of the color change. I think part of it is the way the lava comes IMMEDIATELY and I'm on instant freakout. That's great on the restart, and I'd hate to see you add a slow ramp-up phase. But maybe a dotted line that is a bit above the start, and the lava doesn't kick off until I pass it or something? I could have used a sandbox just to learn the nuances of the button presses, before being thrown to the wolves.
After I got the hang of it, I started doing better. But it was definitely tricky as heck. I think something about the space bar is tough for me, in precision jumping games. I may have done better if I could have used W to jump or something. The spacebar is a large clunky button to accurately double-tap, at least on my crappy wireless kb.
Tight brutal action with rapidly switching realities based on a cool core concept, nice art, all around this was very well done. It was just a bit more than I was able to hack, difficulty-wise.
I can see the inspiration from down well haha.
I really liked the different jumping mechanics - it was really clear which one you had based on the top bar and the colors. It was really cool how the platforms were designed to play off of this mechanic.
I got to 17 and then immediately died without warning. The lava just came super fast out of nowhere.
Amazing Game!
Add some music and sound effects and you have a great game!
I liked how the colours changed each time I collected a gem. Did the colours signify the ability I currently have? If so, I didn't notice while playing. I just remember that I kept thinking "I wish I had a visual way of telling which ability I currently have.
Theme felt a bit weak as it didn't feel like sacrifices and more like exchanges. That's ok though, it's an interesting mechanic!
Look and feel remind me a lot of downwell. If that's what you were going for that's a job well done!
Do you plan to make an enhanced version of the game anytime soon ? With different jumps and with sound ? That's something I would love to play !
It took me a bit to get the controls at the beginning because I kept getting killed my the rising lava -- maybe if it didn't start rising until I got the first crystal, it'd give the player a chance to scope out the controls and such.
As you mentioned, shame you didn't get a chance to make sound. But I look forward to see what you make next!
