Skeleton Arena by someone

[raw]
made by someone for LD 44 (JAM)

Welcome to the fighting pit. You are a pitiful undead made to fight for the amusement of the overlords.

Between rounds you may exchange some of your life force for better equipment and upgrades.
Don't waste too much though, that life force is useful for not dying a miserable death.

Each kill will grant you some extra life force however, so put on a good show before your inevitable demise.

A bit rough and unfinished, but most of the game is here.

Don't ask why the wall is blue. It wasn't supposed to be blue. Why is it blue?

Controls: WASD: move. Left mouse: attack. Right mouse: block.
Hold left mouse to ready an attack. release to attack.
Escape to get back to the main menu when you die.

You can edit data/settings.def to change the resolution

I was going to enter this for the compo rather than jam, but the item shop wasn't done in time.
I am currently working on a post-compo version which I will upload in a few days.

Can you please notice me when the Windows build will be done? Because it looks like a very interesting game :)

Btw, which game engine did you used?

@odlog-oglog Windows build now up.

The game uses a custom engine I built from scratch.

I really liked the game's smooth combat system, it really has a good feeling. Good edition was that all the skeletons attack each other too and not just the player. I would like a HP bar though, but it's not that important.

One more thing, which code language did you used? I know I'am annoying but self made game engine is pretty rare when it comes to Ludum Dare

Anyway good job! :)

@odlog-oglog I use c++. There is a health bar, its the red block at the bottom of the screen.

You can adjust the window size in data/settings.def. I didn't have time to add a settings menu.

The fighting felt pretty fun. This would be interesting to come back and play once you've had more time. Nice job!

this game is my spirit animal, and i mean that in the best possible way. never have i felt my bones rattle as loudly as i did playing this. i felt like i was drunk on ten gallons of milk. 10/10 doesn't even begin to describe it, would get stealkilled while skittling diagonally again.

in all seriousness, i love this game's humor, even if a lot of it is unintentional (in fact, that's what makes it better). the feeling of being chased by a mob of casually jogging skeletons is something phenomenal. mechanics-wise, the fighting was actually kinda fun once you learn how to do it! a bit more health would have made it more balanced, since you die so quickly after a hit or two. i would love to see what this could turn into after some more work!
