Trolldom by Retallicka

[raw]
made by Retallicka for LD35 (JAM)
This game was created by a Norwegian guy and an English girl in Norway. We took inspiration from the Norwegian forest animals. You start out as a troll who shapeshifts every time you meet an animal in the forest. Trolldom means "magic" in Norwegian.

We drew the graphics using coloured pencils, watercolour paints and Photoshop/GIMP.

The code is all written in lua using Löve2D and we mostly spent time writing the engine during this challenge. The game currently has 4 levels but we hoped to do more including some sliding block puzzles. But we ended up spending extra time polishing the graphics and inserting sound instead.

If we took the game further we would have more animals, a range of crossable/pushable/openable objects and tiles, much harder puzzles, and improved graphics with properly seamless tiles.

Pretty cute graphics. It took me a while to work out what to do but once i realized i needed to transform to explore different parts of the map the game instantly become more fun. (not sure if i simply didnt see it, but some instructions would have made it a lot easier to get started).

A really nice entry, and a good use of the theme. well done.

The use of traditional techniques for the graphics is really cool :D The gameplay was simple but not boring and I kept playing till the end. It was over too soon though, I'd like to play more ;)

Nice game, I love the way some of the graphics are actually water color paintings, it definitely gives it more an earthy feel.

Hi, i think you can add more puzzles. Like pushing buttons or something like that to enable some animals on the map so it is a little bit less straightforward. Otherwise i got what to do pretty much immediatelly so i think the gameplay was done right. Transforming into the animals to move through obstacles is quit innovative to me. Music matched with rest. Good work but it was short.

Really simple design and gameplay, but effective, I would say. It was fun to play.

Awww, there I thought I found a really neat puzzle game, but it ended so quickly. :< Too bad, because the idea had quite a potential.

The graphics work well enough, but they lack animation, which I'm not really fond of. The mechanics aren't too advanced, but they didn't seem to break to me, so I guess it's alright.

I hope the next time you'll have more time for levels, because you seem to have cool puzzle ideas; it'd just really help if you made more levels based on that... ^^'
