It's been a long winter, and unfortunately you've just ran out of food. Grab your gun and dog and head out to hunt before you starve to death.

Controls:

wasd to move

mouse to aim

lmb to fire

F to feed someone

G to feed yourself

if you reach 5 hunger you die

if your family members reach 5 hunger they die

survive 15 days to win

survival tips:

animals anywhere on the map will run away from gunshots, don't fire unless you have a target.

keep an eye out for the game trail, if you see footsteps, animals will be this way again eventually.

don't get lost, keep track of where you are relative to your cabin

if desperate, you can kill your dog and family for food

wolves will avoid you unless they're hungry, your dog will help scare them away, but gunshots will really scare them unless they're very hungry, in which case they will attack you

normally barren and desolate are not words I'd use in a positive way, but this game had a really dark atmosphere over it and those two qualities carried it well. I got my first deer rather quickly and just assumed that they would be easy to find. this was not the case, as everyone but myself and my dog starved between then and the next time I saw any. Then, my dog and I walked off into the woods, never to return. we both Died on day 8 lol.

This was really well done, especially for a compo. make sure you play and rate other games, I'd hate to see this one get swept under the rug.

Its been 9 days since I have last seen food... My dog, my companion, lost, whether from starving or wolves i cant be certain. Several days ago i returned home briefly in hopes of sacrificing my wife in order to feed the children, I knew i would never be able to convince her to eat them... But upon reaching home i discovered the three of them dead, all is lost... all but a snack for me, no sense in letting it all go to waste... Now i wander the land free of the burden of being relied on, its just me, alone... hopeless.... I can see the sun rising on the tenth day and alas, a deer, strike that, nearly 20 of them... Today my friends i will be eating my full!

Ok so it was really tough to find those deer, It would have been nice if the herd was split into smaller herds so i was more likely to find them... Also it would be nice to have some landmarks other than the same trees so I can better map out the area in my head...

When I finally found the deer i was excited, and shooting seemed to work well... It was somewhat gratifying to get a few of them out of the herd...

Nights were maybe a little too dark, straining on the eyes...

Graphics where simple but cohesive, I think some atmospheric sounds(wind , weather) would have dded a lot...

Anyhow fun little game, well done sir....

I loved everything about this. I loved the foot prints. I loved the dog. I loved the snow. I loved the simple but difficult survival.

The game has a bleak atmosphere to it, and the lack of any navigational markers back to the house adds to the difficulty. Expanding the game window to fullscreen allowed me to see much more of the surroundings giving me an advantage in tracking the deer. I finally found the deer herd and took down several. I managed to make it back home only to find all the people had died, but ... I have enough food for myself. But ... my family is gone 😢 It is an intense, high-stakes game from which you could likely craft an interesting 2D survival game in the vein of "The Lone Dark".

I really liked the ambiance you made with this simple footprints in the snow :)

Thanks for the comments everyone, appreciate the feedback.

@qviguier if there's no meat next to an animals body that means something else ate it.

@acuriosity completely agree, should have had several small herds of deer, oh well.

You youtube promotion is so good so i need to play

Maybe you need a compass, maybe a map or a dog will bark before I see prey. but if there will be a development, let me know, I would play

Description and idea sounds pretty interesting, but in fact it's hard to play, you find literally almost none of animals :/ But anyway, game is atmospheric!

Great setting and mood. Nice touch with the snowy footsteps, dog following along, and the day/night cycle.

Cool survival game. Managed to lose track of the cabin waaay too fast. Kept coming back across my kills though so I couldn't have been that far. Decided to run off into the snowfield for days on end and found nothing except that every 20 or so footprints stayed in the snow while the rest disappeared.

**The Good:**
Great atmosphere that harmonizes with sound effects and visuals. Gameplay mechanics and controls are simple to understand. I was surprised by the fact that you even added a reload animation - that is attention to detail and it definitely had a positive impact on me.

**Needs Improvement:**
Too much pointless walking with little reward; having to walk for a long time in a desolate snowy plain isn't much fun. Player footsteps feel useless as they disappear very quickly and hunting requires the player to walk very far from the cabin. Some animals didn't drop any food which may have been a bug. Having to track down a pack of animals and hunting them but getting nothing in return was dissatisfying.

I was sad to see I could not help the others waiting in the shed when I got back... but I was not sad enough not to cannibalize their earthly remains in order to survive. :D Nice entry, I liked the concept. I just wanted to see indicators, where is the cabin, how are the others holding up.
