Dinner Hunter - Cook Or Die by ElRyoGrande

[raw]
made by ElRyoGrande for LD 41 (JAM)

entrace.jpg

Go butcher some living ingredients in your cellar to craft meals for your customers.

Controls

  • ZQSD to move
  • Arrow keys to attack
  • O to open recipe book (Arrow keys to move, space to add ingredient, enter to validate recipe)
  • P to open your Cookédex
  • F, G, and H to craft your 1st, 2nd and 3rd recipe respectively

The game is a bit broken, sometimes you will have no orders coming at all. If that's the case, a simple restart should fix it.

Like the look of this one though I struggled with the controls in the web version! Is there a way to toggle the controls to WASD?

The controls are very weird.

@Articulated9 & @Moontigr, oh thanks for the info, we left controls for the french keyboard, fixing it now, sorry :)

Fun idea, but agree the control scheme is weird. It probably make more sense if there was controller support.

Interesting idea, the graphics are really beautiful, and gameplay is rather smooth. Not my cup of tea, but still enjoyable entry.

I felt like the the dimensions of the game were a little to big (as I had to zoom out in order to play on my laptop  ) but overal great submission!

I’d love for you to review my submission as well.

Aujourd'hui j'ai conçu le riz au lait le plus bizarre du monde.

I didn't succeeded to cook a dish though. Wasn't expecting the whole level/hunting side of the game, and the wild vegetables with special attacks ! I got `-154%` health at some time, it didn't finished well for me :)

Bravo les mecs !

Was this in any case inspired by Battle Chef Brigade? If not (and don't know what it is), you should check it out!

Wow, that was ridiculous. Very fun! This game felt very big and you could get lost playing it for a while. Good job!

I like the idea, I like the graphics, the sounds are okay, the samples in the music remind me of some tracker music I probably have but I can't put my finger on it... the game is just too damn hard though! The chef's weapons' hit areas are so tiny and the ingredients are constantly bum-rushing me. Without any kind of healing, shield, roll mechanic, nothing defense, it's just... insanely too hard.

@aaron-nemoyten I did every music and sfx sound and I used Korg legacy with ableton and my voice or object I found in the office. This game is pure orignal content, every design, music, special effect... have been conceived during the JAM.
About the balance you probably right, but try to come back in the kitchen with food to answer to customer request.

Very nice Hotline Miami paced game. I thought the twin stick controls felt pretty intuitive though I'm glad you gave the player a lot of health to make it a bit more forgiving. The enemies move quite quickly, which is fine once you learn their patterns after a while, but there's so many thrown at you in the beginning it's hard to keep track. I'm sure in a full version you'd have a slower ramp up of enemies so that's understandable. Like someone mentioned, this kinda reminded me of Battle Chef Brigade which I really liked, so seeing another entry into the cooking brawler genre is great to see.

Love the look, and creating your own recipes is a great touch. I wish the gameplay was a little less rough.

In environment très interessant, avec des fruits et légumes qui te sautent dessus. C'est comme un cauchemar de cuisinier!
