STORY:

You are a wilderness expert, you know which berries to eat, how to get around the forest with ease and how to shoot a gun. In this post-apocalyptic world those skills are more valuable than ever. You are content with living by yourself until one day someone shows up at your campfire. They are not very competent and they bring trouble and a mouth to feed. You are left with a choice, do you feed them or shoot them? All you know is that the more people there are at your camp, the worse it is...

CONTROLS: - WASD - Move - E - Eat - Click - Shoot - F2 - Toggle Fullscreen - Right Click - Select Person / See Stats and Feed

SETUP:

The windows .exe may or may not require Java/JDK to run. The mac/linux download is a jar file, that you can double-click to run. If you have a JDK installed :(, then hopefully it should work!

Download JDK here (plus it is useful if you ever want to make java games?) http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk9-downloads-3848520.html

@davidvallee42 Yet another struggle of writing and exporting java programs... Though maybe you can get around Windows Defender Smartscreen(?): https://www.itsupportguides.com/knowledge-base/windows-10/windows-defender-smartscreen-prevented-an-unrecognized-app-error/

Impressive game, especially for a first entry. Welcome to Ludum Dare! The idea was different, and I enjoyed it. I was wishing for some audio, though, even if simple sound effects. The art style was consistent, and the controls worked well. Look forward to seeing you around next time!

Overall this is an alright game. I really like the graphics and the concept of the game, although the enemies took an absurd amount of bullets to kill, and there really just wasn't much feedback from the game in general (i.e. particles for when the enemies were hit or some visual effect). Nice job with everything else though, very good first entry!

I let the monsters have the people. They didn't seem to be doing much good. And the way they forgot about being chased right the second the monster focused on something else. Surely they didn't deserve to survive. The game was quite fun for a while. But the rifle needed quite a lot of shots to kill a monster. And there were so many of them that it did feel quite futile. So perhaps make the rifle more effective? Then I might have felt like I had a chance to keep some of the useless people alive. And if I had felt like I could do that, it might have made it more engaging in the long run.

This was an interesting game. I didn't really care about the people... yeah a little mean but I have to fend for myself lol, so let the monsters have them.

The amount of bullets to kill the monsters was too much and too uncertain. Some better feedback or some individual health bars for each monster might help. Or make the gun a bit more effective.

I did feel the need of some sound effects and background music, it could help with the survival theme.

Great job nonetheless :)

I love the art style. I almost felt bad shooting the slimes since they were so cute! I didn't really understand what the benefit of having more people by my fire was, so I didn't feel much impetus to save them from the monsters. I agree with the other commenters saying the gun felt underpowered...it fits with the survival theme but got kind of frustrating as the game went on. Overall nice job!

I played your game on stream last night! It was pretty fun!

The angry blobs looked really funny and I loved how the humans came around the campfire

Some fixes I would add would be that the blob things were abit too overwhelming - High health, alot of them didn't really give me much of a chance to learn how to feed people - Maybe have different sizes with different health (colours, etc)

The people I think should have been able to fend for themselves, I would have loved for this game to be about shooing away the unarmed useless human and having a full squad of heavily armoured soliders around my camp taking out those blobs while I fetch food!

Something I would add to make this game really fun would be a crafting system - Maybe kit out some of the people around the camp with makeshift weapons or make an infinite food source e.g a farm

Great concept - It was fun to play and has great potential  good job!!

I liked the artwork style and the challenge of trying to protect the other people, although its easy to just forget about them, felt a couple of small changes would have helped the fun factor though, the movement was a bit on the slow side and it felt like it took a ridiculous amount of bullets to kill those things, and being rewarded with some death animation or something would have helped increase the satisfaction. Sound even just basic sound fx would really help alot too
