Leave Them Behind by RedE

[raw]
made by RedE for LD 43 (COMPO)

Leave them behind is my entry into Ludum Dare 43.

The game is a 2d platformer where you have to control multiple characters to get one across to the other side of the screen. To accomplish this you must however leave the rest behind.

Controls: A and D to move left and right. Space to jump. Click on character with left mouse button to switch to that character. W to grab ceiling.

Nice puzzle!
I got to level 6, but then got out of time and had to quit, but I like this kind of challenging game!
I liked most the way u implemented the cooperation between the characters to finish the puzzles.
What I think u could improve is the hanging movement is a bit weird, they r too small and swing too short and too fast...

@rgrem Level 4 is quite tricky. You must jump on top of one character, jump with the one on the bottom and then when they are in the air switch to the one on top and then jump.

@fernando-tonon-de-rossi Thank you! I am impressed that you made it to level 6 and I appreciate your feedback. I agree that the hanging movement is a bit weird and needs more work.

WOW this game is really fun! It is super addicting!

Pros:
- Really cool game play mechanic!
- Grabbing is awesome, fun, and challenging!
- BG art was super cool!

Cons:
- I wish the grab button would have been a different key, maybe "G", because it being "W" made me want to press "D" at the same time and I died a lot bc of that.
- Sometimes it's hard to switch to a character if he is swinging fast.

Nice work! The game is fun and a lot more challenging than I first thought, I made it to level 7 but couldn't get past that.

I noticed that the little triangle that shows which character you are controlling is rendering behind the characters themselves and the objects on the scene, which sometimes makes it difficult to see which character you have selected when they are all hanging.

Interesting puzzle mechanics, challenging but quite fun actually. To give you some feedback - controls could be simplified, for example I'd use keyboard only - switching between characters with a key.

I like the mechanics, particularly the grabbing mechanic. It's not one you typically see. The visuals were consistent, although I will admit I would've liked some more personality in the characters I was controlling. The puzzles were well designed. You did a good job here, nice work.

Aside from the simple characters, the visuals are actually very good! The game mechanics were really fun, and I think you did an excellent job on designing the levels! There's really nothing useful I have to say, because it would just be something obvious and more or less a side-effect of the time limit (such as the unpolished UI). Overall, though, I think this is a really good entry! :)

This is interesting and I think using the kind of swing and climb mechanics is quite cool to see in a jam game.

I do think some audio would go a long way to improving the atmosphere of the game but I get that its hard to achieve everything in the jam timescale!
