Problematic Ownage by dukeaccent

[raw]
made by dukeaccent for LD 40 (JAM)

A simple game where you must keep purchasing the newest games and upgrading your computer to run those games well enough.

ld40shot6.jpg

You have a rage meter which, if filled, makes your character throw their computer out. Things that increase rage: not being able to run the newest game at 60 fps, not owning the latest game (the larger backlog of not yet bought games, the worse it gets), being at work, having to lower the graphics quality. Things that decrease rage: having more than 60 fps. Throwing your computer out in anger makes rage reset to zero, but you must have enough money to replace the broken computer or you will lose.

Made with GameMaker Studio.

EDIT: I changed it so you don't have to install the game, just unzip and play.

Game was confusing at first, but I got the swing of things. I agree wholeheartedly, the more money we have, the worse things are. Down with capitalism!

oh god! I just read the headline and it immediately sounded too real :D nice idea. I had a solid laugh because of the character's rage, throwing away the computer! really simple idea but very well executed!

Its just like real life! It would be nice to have some goals along the way, but I thoroughly enjoyed leveling up my PC to the point where even work reduced my rage. :P

Really like the idea of this game. Taking this and making it a full fledged management game would be really fun.

I'm not sure if this is a bug or if it's something unintended, but I found a way I think to basically not lose.
1. Set graphics detail level to medium
2. Go to work
3. Never come home.
4. Buy upgrades as they come in, but only buy games until they get you close to the 60 fps mark.
5. Return home when there is nothing left to buy but the rage is still increasing.

Currently I'm sitting at the following. It keeps telling me there is a new GPU/CPU avaliable, but i can't actually buy them, buttons never open up.

Heh, maxed out computer, never thought anyone would play that far! :) Even in that case you will EVENTUALLY run into a situation where you will be so far behind in games owned that you will start to get rage just from the amount of games you don't own yet.

Hilariously realistic game, simple but efficient graphics (especially for a jam), some good ideas of gameplay. Maybe a little bit hard to handle first, but nice overall.

Doesn't really make much sense that I get angry when my FPS is above 60, I love FPS above 60. This was an interesting game I think some better fonts would have made the game better and maybe a decluttering of the UI as its often that stuff is overlapped and cannot be read. Also as manbeardgames ran into, I also received a NEW CPU message but was maxed out on CPU.

Great idea for a game. A lot of us can relate. Very innovative and creative.

I found a couple of bugs where even when I was at work I was losing rage? Usually after having upgraded parts -WHILE- at work.

Otherwise, I got a kick out of this little game!

The knowledge of your good computer can be enough to keep you satisfied while at work :D Work just adds a little bit to the rage so you can balance it out with a good enough computer

This is a cool game, pretty fun to play, good art, decent difficulty level, and funny idea, even though the character feels like a money-wasting moron (I can't understand what's so appealing about owning the newest games).

Haha such a cool idea. What I did notice is that the best option is just to always be at work, because you can upgrade your gpu enough for work not to affect the rage. But, it's still so funny. 5 star game right here, nice job.

Loved it :) Very innovative idea and humorous design and it's so simple.

I recommend adding speed up button so that the player can speed up the time at work. Also, I noticed one of the times I went to work for about 3 minutes and the rage bar didn't get above zero. Was good to catch a break :D

Great game. Congratulations :)
