Last Piece by WetBox

We are confined to the space of the flying island. It collapses during our journey. In order not to fall into the abyss, we need to repair it. The player is expected to deploy a large-scale production with factories, warehouses and power generators. It is necessary to build an entire industrial city, aimed at survival in these conditions.
Also, you need to quickly make improvements to buildings and introduce modifications in order to extract resources faster. And then, perhaps, we can get to the mainland.

I beat the game by building a lot of "Tier 1" depots and metal/energy producers and after the first 1/4 of the game, there was no longer problems. When a block was falling, I could create more than 6+ others blocks. That was a little game breaking.
And also thank you for your tweet =)

Advantages
- Deep atmosphere
- Challenge (try not to die)
- An interesting idea
Disadvantages
- Easy and boring
- The upgrade mechanic does not work as it should:
It is much more profitable to put a new building than to improve the old one. Since the place is not limited,
and your goal is to make your island bigger, then putting a lot of buildings is not a problem.
- The mechanics of the destruction of the island is not done:
Destruction of the island will occur exactly in the direction in which you build it. It would be more interesting if it would collapse more unpredictably.
RU:
The visuals and audio is also impressiv for a 72 hour game, the ending sound track was very nice
My ship i call it skySword :frog: Size dosen't matter @moffkalast :frog: GG
Edit: Why is no audio rating here? Music is great!
- The first sound effect when you start the game tragically destroyed my ears
- People already said it, but it is too long considering the few buildings there are (which make the end ironic considering you ask if the player want to try a new strategy)
- I was surprised that the metal factory cost that much metal and almost no energy, would'nt the opposite make more sense ?
Anyway, I'm more than impressed than you managed to finish a city builder during a jam, congrats !
The really strong aspects are the atmosphere and soundtrack, which is very catchy despite its simplicity, and charming graphics and UI. It all runs very smoothly and building is a pleasurable experience. Overall the esthetical experience was well executed.
The concept is really original as well, so I'd like to make some remarks about the game design :
1. The game seems to point to the Reactor as the reason why the player should accumulate resources : upgrade the reactor, go faster, get there quicker. However :
- speed does not affect anything other than the time of arrival
- survival solely depends on the ability to re-build the island, not on speed
- the ability to re-build the island (blocks) costs the same resources as upgrading the reactor, which is really expensive
This all makes upgrading the Reactor a really poor choice, despite it being central to the island. A far better strategy is to never touch the reactor, and build rows of resource-producing buildings until you can re-build the island faster than it falls. Then, speed never matters again.
This could be avoided in two ways : either remove the Speed mechanic from the game altogether, and increase building/abilities diversity, or make it have some crucial importance during gameplay. Maybe speed gives momentum which holds the island together ?
Or it makes resource buildings function faster ?
2. Energy and metal are different names for the same element : a resource you accumulate every second with buildings, and that is used to build more buildings (I am aware that the reactor costs energy only, but its cost is negligeable). Maybe both resources should vary more.
I am aware of the time constraints though, and this is very well done for a 3-days (solo ?) game. Congratulations !!
At first I failed really often. Than I realized thad I only have to build as much metal factories as possible. After this it was really easy, but also creates a kind of flow. Build factories. Build metal cubes. Build factories. Build metal cubes.
Maybe it could happend something in the late game that challange the player a bit more. Like an event like rocks who crashed with your island and trough this 3 blocks instead of 1 blocks are falling down.
The Soundscape makes a lot too. And your artystyle is really cool but I knew this already because I've watched your posts while the LD. :D
The mood of this game is particulary well done, great job for a jam !
It fits the theme well and is well made.
I would've like to see more conflict and some resolution to my play session; like a way of really winning, but that's a very minor gripe from me.
While these types of games aren't really my thing, I found myself drawn in and playing for a bit, which is nice.
Great job!
I didn't upgrade my reactor the first time through, didn't notice I could, and it felt too long. My island was so massive by the end that I was the real mainland, and I had no concerns for half of the way there. My second try I upgraded the reactor. Arriving sooner felt much better so I have to disagree with @thefunattic. As long as the objective is to reach a destination speed is a relevant choice. @thefunattic may have a point about making engine upgrades more crucial to the gameplay though. What about having the island slow down with the increased weight as it grows so you need to upgrade to keep moving along, or have it so that you need to upgrade it to unlock higher tier structures.
I would also like hotkeys to pick what I'm building.
It seems like you were really hoping for the theme "Floating Islands" to get picked this time!
@skyrex Thanks! We are very glad that you liked =)
@larkinia Thanks for your feedback. We hope that in the future we will finish the project and will add many ways to develop of the island.
@vaip Thanks.
@moffkalast Wow! This is the bigger island which was built so far! We are really happy to see your screenshot. As for the exploit, it really is, but of course we will fix it in the future. Thank you for your time!
@alex-kurasov Все замеченные вами недостатки действительно присутствуют в игре. Мы будет работать ними. Спасибо за оценку!
@rustycrow LOL! I knew that someone would do it sooner or later. Great job =) Thanks for rating!
Other than that it's beautiful and polished.
You could make it an interesting full game if you go further.
Great job.
Idea is really cool, but I wish blocks destruction happens less random. I mean, if it has some strict rules I would like to have tools to break them (without exploits), like adding strength to blocks or spreading weight over land to make it more sustainable. Plus more random events like a piece of flying island falling in the center of mine and breaking my delicate balance.
Nonetheless, great job!
P.S. It seems the Mainland is 3 times smaller than my island)
My only complaint is that selecting a building was a little bit awkward. I kept missing the buildings I wanted to select. I think if you highlight the building that the player is about to select it would have been much easier.
Other than that, I have enjoyed pretty much everything. Good job.
Once again, this game is very well made, and even considering that you almost immediately understand what exactly is reqired to complete it, it's still fun to build an island of your own design and to fully upgrade all the buildings.
Great job!
I feel like it was too long, maybe with other events occurring along the way (besides my island falling apart) might help to break this up.
@iwa Thank you! Probably, we will do so.
@rodrigo-denubila Thank you for appreciating the stylistics of our game.
@n-feofentov Thank you for these suggestions! These are interesting options.
@annie-owl Thank you! Great idea. Now the game does not understand which building was chosen.
@detectivelosos Thank you for describing your experience in the game!
@minibobbo Thank you! We saw your post with a list of games. There was our game. We are grateful for your feedback.
@seizethedia Thank you! You're right. Need additional events in the game.
@norris-eldridge Thank you!
Would love to play again with different setups, more mechanics, etc...
Congrats!
@mochakingup Thank you! It is very strange. We tested the download and there were no problems with the archive.
