Scotticus' Crypt by Zapfly1299

[raw]
made by Zapfly1299 for LD 40 (JAM)

A short but hopefully kinda sweet dungeoncrawler made by our group of 4 for Ludum Dare 40. A bit rough around the edges but hopefully not too shabby for a group with just over a year's experience each.

In accordance to the theme, the keys that are required for progression bear curses that deduct from the player's stats.

It says "UnityPlater.dll was not found" when I'm trying to start the game :/

Luckily I made a Unity game too, so I had that .dll myself.
The game is a mixed bag. The levels looks really nice, but the player and monster models don't fit with them, and it's pretty hard to guess when the enemies will hit you. Also, I may or may not have experienced a bug: When the second level started, my health bar was suddenly almost empty, yet nothing that happened (health pick ups, enemy attacks) seemed to affect it anymore.

Its playable now and Iv got to say I like it, the keys are a good way of implementing the theme. Its simple and easy to pick also it has some good reliability with seeing how fast you can go through, Id suggest maybe adding a timer so you can see how fast you did it. The 2D and 3D are very good but doesn't quite work together, some consideration on what your art direction is before making assets maybe be good to keep in mind for next time. Over all its a really nice game!

I enjoyed the game and would have liked more levels because it would have been fun. The level art was good, the character art was good, but putting them together didn't seem right in my opinion. I liked the concept of the keys having a negative effect on the player.

I would have preferred some UI to show which keys I had picked up and what effect they had on me, as I forgot the effects by the time I reached level 2. I found it hard to tell whether the spikes on the ground were raised or lowered, because they have a similar colour to the floor. I eventually managed to work it out, but making them stand out would be a good improvement.

I found the game fun overall, and it fit the theme well. Good game!
