Ludwig Lantern - Ludum Dare 39

You help Ludwig on the path of self-realization by seeing things in a new light.

My first game, LD entry and c# language app. I most likely had more fun scripting this than you might playing it ;D.

Any feedback, negative or positive is appreciated.

You need to publish the game on itch.io before people can play it. Check it in private browsing.

For a first experience is good, but you need to add things like a pause and main menu to make it more polished.

Some animations to the main controller could be cool too ^^

And a little bright to the fuel could help too :D

Expiring light is frustrating XD But cool anyway, as the music !
Also, the delay before the next pack of energy badly surprised me, because I had the time to explore some part of the room, thinking that the pack allready popped. So I didn't looked again in this part of the room. Sadly, the pack popped up in, after I came :p
(sorry for the bad english)

Not really clear what the objective is. Felt a little bit like Snake trying to find all the things. Maybe could have helped if each orb made the light just a touch brighter so you could see the room. I do think you leaned too hard on pre-existing assets, good you credited them but doesn't show a lot of effort went into your submission.

Try animating a few things next time, it can add a lot of life to a game! Scale the difficulty differently. It becomes random whether I'll be able to continue since (after a few seconds) I can't see anything or influence the game at all. Why not stretch the playtime a bit? or add more enemies over time?

Character was cute and a little odd, try something with him another time!:)

Nice start, I agree with @prettylucky that just a little bit of animation can add a lot to a game! It took me a few tries but I was finally able to make it past 2 fuel!

I never really could read the text above the player because it disappeared too quickly which was kind of annoying. I really liked the "cake is a lie joke" and the "42" in the corner. Overall, it's a good game for a first try. It suited the theme. Glad you had fun scripting, that's the important part.

Nice music and a good first entry, it is hard to figure out what the objective is though. Good job.

I recommend some animation, but other than that its a good game!

Being your first game, I'm going to obviate the "no animation", "few mechanics" and move to the gameplay.

The game controls well, but the "light stones" appear too scarcely. Usually, you expend more light to find one that the light they give. A more forgiving spawn rate would improve the game a lot.

It's pretty smooth and controls well. I needed a lot more time to read the instruction text that appears at the beginning (refreshed the page 3 times). It also seemed very difficult to go for long, since as the light gets smaller your chances of actually finding another pickup drop dramatically. It might be interesting to have a few more enemies, but always show the player where the next pickup is.
