Nobody is remaining to know what happened, but earth is not exactly habitable anymore, average earth temperature is around -15C, the upper atmosphere is full of dust and the sun is barely reaching the ground. Your sensors are quite damaged but from what you are gathering you seem to be an artificial intelligence inside the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. Suddenly you feel an immense pain for one second and your battery level indicator flashes in your mind :
Low battery, please recharge

I think you could help players learn by slowing the speed of the game and only introducing text and buttons as they become relevant; i.e. once you have enough research to mine coal for the first time that is when the topic of mining should be first shown to the player - including the costs and benefits.
Still, this was an interesting game that felt engaging to play. It reminded me of A Dark Room :)
Small things - could use a way to restart or stop the game without reloading the whole page.
I like how it's appears to be a sort of idle-game, but with substantial time pressure added. I can't recall seeing that sort of thing before.
Edit: This is by far the most amount of time I have put into a Ludum Dare entry! :D
Also, I planted just one tree, and it doubled into >1000 trees in just a few turns. I'm not sure if this is intended, but it means that as long as you're not on the brink of losing, you basically win as soon as you build one tree.
There's really no reason not to burn your wood and oil right away, since there's no cap on the power you can hold. And so that means having wood and oil be separate has no advantage. Maybe you could make it that if your power goes above a certain threshold, the power you generate becomes less due to inefficiency. That way, you would actually have to make sure you don't burn anything when your power is too high or you burn only the wood when you are close to that threshold, so that you don't waste your resources.
Anyway, fun game, thanks for making it ;D
I agree with others that with a few UI tweaks, and perhaps some sort of in-game instruction, this could be really cool. Congrats!
Overall, it's a great strategy game, and I'm guessing you didn't have a lot of time to create it. Good job!
