Getting Darker by evanmhm

[raw]
made by evanmhm for LD 39 (COMPO)

A game about managing the power level supporting your light and your weapon in an underground power facility. The more you shoot, the more limited your visibility becomes. Some enemies drop power packs but be careful, you can't get your health back, and it looks like... its getting darker...

My first Ludum Dare Compo submission (did one Jam last year). I really enjoyed making this one, but the project got a little out of hand near the end, I decided to scrap the rushed music and just go with the minimal sfx. Theres no controls on the menu (sorry) so here are those:

WASD: Move,

Left click (hold): shoot,

Right click (hold): focus,

E (when in area, hold): turn on switch,

Left click (when in cutscene): advance text.

(V 1.1 remove instant win)

(V 1.2 add quit button on main menu)

And finally some screenshots: Screen Shot 2017-08-06 at 11.17.15 PM.png Screen Shot 2017-08-06 at 11.15.09 PM.png Screen Shot 2017-08-06 at 11.16.42 PM.png

Thanks for reading and playing!

Nice game. I was able to take the elevator with only two switches... but the graphics are cool (I like the camera shake when you get hit or when you fire). It lack sounds to really emphasize the gameplay.

I can see a good use of the theme in this one. I don't know if you're aware you can run straight down to the elevator without doing anything else and win, I find this by accident... :)

Very nice game. I found it really cool how the light around you got smaller the less energy you had. But the robots are really aggressive and because of the "load time" of the gun you always had to walk backwards. I don't think it's bad per se, but you have to get used to it. All in all really cool.

Awesome job building up story at beginning and end. Clear UI and clean graphics make it a very fun play through. I enjoyed the shooting mechanic. The red diamond / scope beam plus the heat-up timer and audio, made it feel very interactive. Nice work!

Nice mechanics -- loosing range-of-visibility when losing power, this adds a good amount of tension to gameplay.
