Petri Panic! by Zeaga

[raw]
made by Zeaga for LD 42 (JAM)

You play as a scientist who dropped a beaker of some strange purple goo. It seems to multiply both on the ground and in your handy bucket. Scoop it up and flush it down the toilet before it makes an irreversible mess!

Nice game, had fun with this, I really like the music and the art style, game has great atmosphere. Reminds me of Dexter's Lab with the colour choices.

This is a solid concept, and decently executed. There are 2 main points to address.

1. Because of the linearity of the movement it becomes very clear that there is not a lot of "decision" making with grabbing slime. There are a few ways you could fix this. Have objects appearing and disappearing that you need to avoid. Having boosters that you can grab along the way to help you. Have different areas to drop off the goo btu they fill up so you have to figure out where to go that is best. ATm my agency feels very minimal, and it's so close to feeling great. I would increase the movement speed a tad so that when you have no slime your faster and as your bucket fills up you get a tad slower.

2. When you are full it should flash to you, and better clearer indication of the drop off point.

other than that, this has a good solid start.

Very well done, the game is really entertaining. But the bucket is way too small, it seems impossible to get rid of all the goo. After a trip to the toilet all the goo i picked up was already back...

Brilliant! Everything works really well together. Not great on mood, but absolutely smashing in fun and theme. A solid 8/10 from me.

PS: How about adding screenshots to the page. Helps marketing etc. ;)

Yeah...bucket too small... but I loved when I had too much it spilled... really fun. Thank you for this game. Really entertaining.

Pretty fun and quite difficult. Agree with @2games2easy and @smbe19 about the size of the bucket. The music is quite cool. It's a pretty good proof for a bigger game, imho.

Nice entry! I love the art style and the music really lends itself to the overall game. This is a great concept for the Running Out of Space theme, I enjoyed watching the slime flow across the floor. It was also a cool idea to have it continue to grow in the bucket to the point where it could spill out to the floor while you carried it, that made the game a lot harder and more interesting. It does make me worry about the poor sanitation workers at the local sewage treatment plant though, what if the slime keeps growing? The one place the game felt lacking was the interaction with the world; while picking up the slime was fun for a while it quickly lost interest, almost as soon as I saw that it was a fundamentally impossible task based on how I started. I think that having some interaction beyond just walking over the slime could have made the gameplay perfect. It is overall a very fun game, and I enjoyed playing it. Nice job!

@smilewood Hey, once it goes down the toilet it's their problem not ours ;D

I really appreciate that the player movement is smooth and a good speed! It felt pretty satisfying to run around and automatically pick up slime :) I feel like I wasn't extremely motivated to keep playing after a few runs because I felt like I was kind of doing the same thing -- I guess @cranestyle already addressed this! Overall it was very fun, glad I got to play :)

PLayed the game, nice graphics as much as tried i think that as a player you secretly never had any chance of winning, slime grows too fast. Maybe some power ups can do the trick.
Like the pixel art.
Good job.

Simple, well done game! The art is great, and I really like the idea. The game seems to imply that it's winnable, but I'm not convinced that it is. I like that you have to be careful about how much goo you pick up since it spreads in the bucket and spills out. There should definitely be more to it than just running back and forth between the toilet and the goo, though. Nice job!
