Broken people by WTMK_BK

[raw]
made by WTMK_BK for LD 43 (COMPO)

This is a block falling game. Click the block that matches the person you want to give love to. When both peoples have maxed love you win. If pride gets to high then a sacrifice must be made. This game is suppose to represent two people having an argument about to break up. This is my first LD :D i had a blast. Thank you so much for playing! All feedback positive or negative will help me grow as a designer so please feel free to leave a comment down below.

HOW TO PLAY: ( Not being able to add in a tutorial i decided to write one this is kinda spoiler but at least you will know what is going on ) :D

The blocks are falling under gravity so you'll need to click where they will be not where they are just by a little if you practice you will pick up on this fast. The goal of this game is not to win the argument but its to get both people on the same page, as in a real argument its rarely the exact contents of the problem we are fighting over but rather we are just fighting each other. This is represented by color text boxes so match blue with a falling blue block and that person will gain some love, if you manage to get both peoples asking for the same color they will continue to ask for the same color until your timer at the bottom fills up or you miss click( you get a free mess up too ). Every time you sync up your timer bar will reset.

Pride is the yellow bar this fills up slowly over time and is the round end trigger. When one persons pride maxes out they will loose half of their current love, and you will get to chose to hurt them or hurt the other person. The person you choose to hurt will get a heart strike. Heart strikes decrease the time it takes that persons pride bar to fill up. After receiving your 4th heart strike on one person they will leave pack all there bags and never come back. They did after all take quite the beating. Love can be messy.

Love is the pink bar that grows each time you make a match. When both players reach max love you win and they learned to fight the problem not each other. Remember love is about sticking it out and helping each other grow in the darkest of times pride is leaving... if you want a happy relationship check your ego/pride at the door :D and compromise that person sitting next to you may not always be there tomorrow. So at the end of the day love each other and fight the battles together you can do it I believe in you!

Maybe I'm old, but because of these falling cubes I couldn't focus on UI. Also, theme seems kinda forced. Anyway, good job on submitting.

I didn't fully understand what does clicking over those boxes do.
Was it suppose to 'win argument' - and i'm about to decide who will win it and decide who should be harmed?

Not really get also what are winning / loosing conditions - seems like playing chess by myself - does it mater if whites wins or black wins?

Anyway - great that you was able to submit game in time - work on your skills, but definitely - tackle game design more than anything else - we are here for feedback so you can learn! :)

This is *much* too fast to be playable for me

Good job for your first Ludum Dare! :) The gameplay was actually fairly fun, but I must say that the game could have been more polished, things like the text that could have been capitalized and more correct, or the colors that don't exactly match, or you could have used a font instead of hand-drawing. It is a good start, I must say, but I felt like you needed some constructive feedback :)

hello, i think game is too hard, i failed to match colors because cubes are too small and fast. for the graphics side it needs more polish, but you said it is your first LD and this one is a good start

Interesting idea but found it difficult to understand the action -> reaction of clicking on different cube colors

Interesting abstraction of an argument. Understanding how love and pride worked took some getting used to, but it became more enjoyable the more I started to understand it. I also like the unique gameplay of clicking on the falling colored cubes and how you were able to add more difficulty by changing the falling pattern.

I really liked the concept. It was fun to play, but maybe the falling boxes should have started off a bit slower.

the speed worked fine for me - nut sometimes it seemed my clicks wouldn't register (don't know if that was an html5, speed, code issue

didn't quite get the love - pride relation but still managed to get to the end :)

Great stuff! The falling blocks were a little dizzying to watch and the objective isn't very clear but I thought it was pretty fun and the music sounds awesome. Nice Work!!

This is a really unique take on the theme, however, I felt like it needed some visual / audible feedback when clicking on a correct cube. All in all, good job for your first entry and keep making games! :)

Like a lot of other people said, I didn't really understand what I was doing. The cubes were falling so fast that I couldn't see what they were affecting. I think I was supposed to sync them up and get them both to be the same color? But then the love stat kept going down after a "round" and I didn't know why. If the goal was more clear I think it would have been a lot better.

A nice little game. Quite a unique one, as well.

The Theme might not be the strongest aspect of it, but the gameplay is engaging, especially if you manage to get both sdes match and go on a strack of them aggreeing on color - feels great!

The hitboxes are a bit off though. Sometimes the boxes would not register my clicks for some reason... Though there might be a million potential reasons why this is happening, starting from Colliders and Graphics moving out of sync, to me actually being too slow. Yep, reflexes are not my strongest aspect.

Sound effects are... a little annoyhing TBH, but it is still good to have them, as they add to the game feel.

I really couldn't figure out what bumps up the pride, but still managed to beat the game on first go.

@hilvon Thank you for your playing and the feedback. The issue everyone is having with the blocks is that they are falling with gravity you need to click where they will be because of this it can have a clunky or unresponsive feel if you are clicking where they currently are. I didn't really think that out going into it. Also i need to add a tutorial what it sounds like is everyone is having a hard time understating what is going one :D But thats awesome you all played it TYVM!

Good for your first attempt. The game is a little nauseating and frustrating at times, especially as the cubes are hard to click on. Maybe just using the mouse cursor instead of having to click would have been better? Anyways, hope you learnt a lot during the Jam

Yeah, I let them love each other, I win!
Never play a game like this before, quick reaction with falling blocks and simulate the conversation. Great a idea.

A bit confusing to me, and the graphics look a bit weird in my opinion. But anyway, the game idea was quite cool (: Congrats!
