The Torches Are Burning Low by Didactylos
I have spent so much time with my students doing classic 2D maze puzzle games, I thought I would try the same concept with a retro Wolfenstein 3D look. Watch out for spikes!

Avoid the traps, pitfalls, and weird floaty skulls, and find your way out of this endless labyrinth. Spoiler! It's not actually endless, it just feels like it. And the lights are growing dim...

Tools and Credits
- Graphics: Inkscape and GIMP
- Models: Blender (I made a door. Never got around to the flaming torches!)
- Game: Unity/C# (I made a level editor. Why?)
- Fonts: Handserif, Destroyed Aero (Public Domain)

For best results, use the Windows version. Mac is untested until post-jam, and WebGL just barely works. WASD or arrow keys, shift to run, space to jump, escape to quit.

* Nice "Windows95 Dungeon game" touch. Loved it
* Funny player comments.
Negative:
* I felt it a bit slow and boring.
* I didn't see how it is related with the jam theme.
Good work though!
Gameplay is good and complemented by just the right amount of wit from the player character.
I also wildly underestimated how tough the game starts to get as the lights go out. Pitfalls OP.
Otherwise, the game is nice ; the FPS were a bit laggy (GNU/Linux user, only played the web version), making it hard to control the direction with the mouse.
I liked the floating skulls ; the darkness might be coming a little bit too fast?
Also, the self-modifying maze idea is cool, but I think you should hint it in some way the first time ; even reaching a dead end doesn't make it so obvious that you should go back on your steps. The first time, I was searching for some switch on the wall (with the spacebar, which might not do anything at all!), or a ghost wall ...
There is an issue with the brightness in the WebGL version - I suspect it's getting the gamma wrong or something. As a result, it feels like it gets dark too fast.
This game is really interesting and the levels are good designed.
- Graphics: I'm just digging them. I always liked this minimalistic artstyle and being the 90' kid these games always bring out good memories :) They all fit nicely together, although I was not able to try them fully at their best (I'm on notebook and this games really kills it on Ultra :( )
- Sound: I could imagine some music playing in the background, kind of sad there is not any. It would definitely enhance the experience quite a bit. Sound effects are nice and fit the game.
- Gameplay: I had a little hard time moving around, jumping gaps, but I got used to jumping mechanic pretty quickly so take it just as nitpick. Overall, game played really nicelly. It doesn't felt that repetitive as I thought it would from the images and was actually quite good balanced.
EDIT: Totally forgot about Humor and Mood! Mood was definitely very well set and the humor... When I got pierced by the spikes in the beginning cause I am a dum-dum the sishkebab quote killed me (quite literally). There's definitely some sense of humor in this :)
Overall, I had much fun playing this! I need to finish it when I get home, I'm out right now. But I'm pretty impressed even with little of what I tried. Job well done :)
I'm curious with what you'll come up with next Jam, looking forward to see you there :P
One thing suggestion I would have is creating some kind of breadcrumb trail that points you in the right general area since it felt like most of the time it was just trial and error.
Controls worked really great for me, but jump felt a bit floaty. Though, I do think that, because of the genre (and the pits), it fits quite nicely with it.
The spikes and some dangers could have some bit of anticipation, though, when the light levels are a bit high. You often end up running and skewered like a shish kebab without notice, if you always run (or sometimes when you just turn around a corner).
Overall, great entry and nice work there! :D
Cheers!

The game is very immersive. Even with the low res graphics, it make you feel inside a dungeon.
