BUG SQUASHER 9000 by alwaysinbeta
The mainframe has become infested with bugs. You must control the BUG SQUASHER 9000 to eradicate them!
Battle your way through several levels of computer circuitry. But be careful: the charge for each of the bug squasher's systems (shield, weapons, fuel) is quite limited.
I planned to enter the compo but needed some extra time. I made all the code, audio and graphics (badly!).
The code is all JavaScript running on PixiJS. I used PISKEL for the graphics in the end. The music and sfx were all made using Korg Volca and Roland JX3P synths and put together in Reaper.

The graphics, the sound, the mood everything fits well together. The only thing I had to learn were the controls! But after a little testing I got used to it. :0)
Very well done! Thank you for this game! :0)
The weapons deplete a bit too fast, I had to kill the bugs with the shield in the last level, but maybe that was intentional.
The game didn't seem to load on Firefox for some reason.
Maybe you need to tweak a little bit the controls (as suggested above), nut overall it is enjoyable!
A love the graphics and effetcs!
Never been a fan of the rotation-relative controls.
The biggest thing thing that bothered me was that the game is very unforgiving for how much speed it gives you. It's super easy to go to fast, and slightly bumping the walls or an enemy can quickly end you, perhaps leading to a more conservative play style than you intended.
Overall though, very fun and entertaining! Great job!
Cool idea, like graphics and sounds!
I would put an arrow to show the direction of the bug squasher, it's a bit confusing.
The movement is a little sluggish. In order to shoot at the bugs I would usually come to a full stop, and I completely stopped trying to time out the electric barriers because my shields become fully charged in the next level. One thing that I think would combat both of these problems would be a dash, like something that uses up a chunk of movement energy but it pushes your character forward quickly. Maybe it can squash bugs while dashing at the cost of some shield too!
Overall good game!
