About

Dogs on the Bed is a fun little puzzle game. You pick up dogs and rotate them to fit onto the bed. Make sure you dont leave dogs off the bed for too long, or they may get too cold and wake up.

SS3.png

How to play

Left click = pick up/put down dog

A + D = Rotate dog

Aim of the game

Dont let your furry friends get too cold; keep them snuggly and warm in the bed.

Dogs that have been sleeping on the bed warm up and can be temporarily placed back on the floor (just dont let them get too cold).

Stacking_Method.png

Running out of space? You can stack certain dogs on top of each other (it also gets you more points).

Get as many points as possible, and aim to beat your high score!

Get enough points to unlock a secret new dog.

Let me know if you beat my current high score of 162!

Tips

Watch out for the smaller dogs they get colder faster

Remember you can move dogs on and off the bed

You receive more points the higher you can stack the dog

Bigger dogs are also worth more points

The more blue a dog is the colder it's getting

Dogs warm up on the bed and can last longer on the floor

Had a good laugh with this one, Controls are simple and do the job, You get told what to do and how to do it. I giggled at the game over screen quite a bit. Didn't realise I could stack dogs at first! Simple not in your face music added to this experience! Well done!

*Looks at actual mountain of dogs.*

Sorry long boi, looks like you weren't destined to be a *hot dog* after all...

I like the premise and it's a super competent entry, for sure, but where are all of the dogs coming from? That's what I really want to know! Material for a sequel, perhaps?

@mrserp You don't have 20+ dogs in your household? I would love to add a few more game play elements (jackets to warm dogs, bones that take dogs off the bed etc), we had many more ideas just ran out of time. Thanks for the feedback :).

-> work on feedback focus ( Key is like fixing making it more clear about dog ice stuff)
-> think about how to make moving the dogs be more fun
-> Pace the early game more through just large dogs aka ( just laying them down ) and then increase the difficulty.

It's rather difficult to know a dog's status using only color, maybe add a kind of healthbar (heatbar?) when a dog is nearing the freezing point. Often times I failed without knowing which dog becomes a pupsicle.

I agree that it would be useful to have some other indication than just a change in colour. Other than that, it was a really nice game.

Really cute game! the dogs and environment are really well done, though the black dog looks a little... dead, I think because of the Charcoal color, at first I thought it was a frozen dog. try making the color a bit more bluish so it looks like a real living dog, it's a small detail but it was just something I noticed.

Cute idea, and nice looking too. I lost a few times without knowing which dog was cold - maybe it was the one I was holding. I can imagine future versions with some animation - the dogs could walk in and lie down, or wake up if they are cold. Good job!

I like this game. Like they said I think we don't see enough when they change color. it was only after 3 tries that I noticed. But great idea ^^

First of all, lovely dogs :D
I liked the game, it was short and difficult. The mechanics were easy but at the same time difficult due to time and space management! Loved the variation in the dog types!

The time inbetween dog spawns couldve increased a little for me, i didnt have time to think about the arrangement so I stacked horribly a lot of times. Also I cant see the small dogs behind a pile of dogs :)

Great game nontheless :D

Great game. I think the timer needs to be a lot longer, at least for the beginning.

I didn't actually play it, I watched YourBr0ther play it on twitch. I really liked it. Very unique idea and fit the theme really well. And I love doggos. :) Well done

This is definitely one of the most eyecatching games I've seen on any LD frontpage lol. Really clever theme, dare I ask it's inspired by real life events? The gameplay is pretty straightforward so I really like the time constraints you put on the player, it forces them to make some hard optimization choices. Nice entry, I'm pretty sure you'll score well in the humor category.

@peachtreeoath Thanks really appreciate it. On the morning of the jam I was lying in bed thinking of ideas when our Labrador jumped onto the bed and lay down. Were also looking after a friends pug, and the pug jumped onto the bed sat on top of our lab and an idea was born.

Love the idea, the graphics and sounds are all great, but the controls take away from the immediacy of the idea:
- The hitboxes of the dogs should probably be extended (for the small dogs especially) - clicking in the tiny gap between their feet should count as a click, it's not obvious that it wouldn't be.
- A highlight would probably help.
- A more visually obvious display of their temperature would also help. Right now it's quite a mystery when they're about to freeze.
- Here's the biggest thing - it FEELS like a game that's constrained by blocks, it would work better if it were, but it isn't. The free axis placement makes the game difficult to contend with, and you're left wanting to min/max available space by careful tweaking. You also cannot visually and quickly gauge whether a dog will fit in a space or not, instead being forced to twist and turn and hope it fits. This would work if it were a turn-based slow game, but it isn't. So the nature of the game and the time limitations don't line up and cause frustrations in the wrong direction. Either design towards turn-based, or design towards time pressure. Either direction places different demands on the game design.

I really like it! But these elements make it difficult to enjoy fully!

Leaving comments now(even though I played it on Monday, it's been a busy week) Overall a fun game, good graphics, funny idea. Perspective is kinda frustrating, because it's hard to see where the dogs will end up, the shadows help but its not perfect. The dogs also have strange hit boxes, where the tails and legs will prevent you from placing them, but then are also really hard to lay smaller dogs on top of. So leg space basically is wasted cause you can only place smaller dogs on the bodies of the larger ones. Overall it's feels like more of an exercise in patience more than strategy. Yes strategy is a part of it, taking the dogs off each other and then re-stacking them is a strategy, but get some bad RNG and it's basically over for you, due to this and the lack of precision placement(say like if it was on a grid) it feels less like Tetris, or a Towers of Hanoi puzzle and more like a physics sandbox.

Granted nothing I've said are things that haven't been said hahaha.

Argh I only succeed to go to 118 ! But really funny and a very good idea !
Sometimes it's really hard to see where a dog can be put or not on the bed with their poses..
But a really cool game ! Good job ! ^^

This was so great! I loved playing this on stream, thank you for sharing it! The main thing I felt like I wanted was a snappy rotate mode of either 90 or like 45 degree rotations as it would lead more to the fast pace aspect of the game fighting against cold dog timers. Really have fun with the game though, super adorable dog models!

Such a cute game! My heart goes out to all icicle pups out there—they all need a bit of warmth and cuddles! Honestly don't have a lot to say. It's just very well done and having churned out such a variety of top notch dog models for a jam game absolutely baffles me. It's really amazing! The little details on the nightstands are a fun addition that almost tell a story. Exquisite work! <3
