Game made for LDJAM #43.

"Not so Magic!" Is a simple card game with medieval fantastic content. Beat Orcs with your Elfs earn gold and defeat our IA.

It was our first attempt to make a 3D game. We know that we're not so much in the LD's 43th theme but we wanted to make a fun game about an idea we had for months in mind.

We would be very pleased to improve the game with the following features in the next monts or so :

  • Improved models and graphics
  • Add some FX
  • Sounds and music
  • 1vs1
  • 1vs1vs1vs1
  • NetPlay

Be sure to tell us if you like the concept as much as we do so we can give a little more energy in the development of this creation. Any other feedback is also welcome!

Have fun guys!

------------------ RULES ----------------------

You have to play a card the same race your opponent played. Exception : when you don't have any more card of the same race you can "cut" with a card with race from the current territory (and win) or any other card (and loose) The highest attack rank card wins You can "cut" at anytime with a card from the race on its on territory to take the turn and win but try to spare those cards wisely.

Am not normally into card games but enjoyed this. The visual presentation of your game is amazing given the short timeframe. Also the presence of cats makes any game better

This is really nice. Everything looked pretty polished and I enjoyed the graphics. The card-of-your-territory-destroys-everything-else seemed a bit game-breaking. Everything else was really fun.

pretty fun card game. Visually AMAZING in such a short time, and the completely fleshed out tutorial is awesome! Just needs some music/sfx to really round out the experience. Great job!

A very simple yet re-playable game. Probably a lot better with actual human players, as the AI tends to just play the largest cards.

interesting mechanic sometimes it's too weird because you can't win just because random.

Very nice game!

Graphics are gorgeous.
Don't really see the theme in it though and could do with some basic soundtrack as well. Would improve the mood :-)

Very nice card game. Reminds me of the games I play with my real playing cards.

Before playing I thought it was going to be too complex to learn the rules, but it's actually quite simple to understand, wich I thing is a good thing.
I like how you can drag the cards just like in Hearthstone, and overall it's pretty fun, the only thing that might be missing is the audio, but everyting else is amazing :)

Interesting and very well made. It feels a lot like a standard 32-card game, where you inspired by one in particular ? It reminded me of the Manille but with 2 players only. I feel like it would be more strategic if you could not cut if you still have cards of the color/race like in the manille.

@tornoz : It's inspired by the "Jass" game from Switzerland. It's like a national sport here. But I assure you the fact to cut is all about strategy because a nice way to play it is to play your territory card first to be sure your opponent don't have it anymore before playing the standard card. But the game is funnier when you play 2vs2 or 1vs1vs1vs1. We didn't have time to handle other game mode. Btw thank you for your feedback!

Pretty good looking game. I enjoyed it too) Even I'm not fun of card games. Cat-design are rule))

If game not in fullscreen mode it is not scaling properly:

Very pretty visuals; highly evocative of Hearthstone! The wood texture in the background is especially good, and the board/playing area is very cool! The game is very strong graphically, even without considering the 72-hour time limit!

I did get confused by the current "set's" territory though; the symbols on the board are very easy to miss. I feel in this situation the symbols should probably be the same color as the current territory to allow it to be easier to read at a glance, or that color should be represented somewhere on or near the board.

Speaking of which, I think the cat's and orc's colors (orange and red) are somewhat too similar when placed on the board. I got confused the first time the opponent placed a cat card and I had no cat cards, so I placed a high-level orc card thinking it would win (it did not).

The game itself is mostly balanced and easy to grasp, which is much to your credit! I won my matches against the ai, so it's difficult to determine how it would feel to play against a human player, but the strategy seemed simple enough to comprehend for a beginner like me.

That said, there seemed to be a few things I wondered about or was unsure of:
- It wasn't clear to me how the cards were being distributed to each player. The tutorial says that 36 cards are available, but only 18 are in play for each set (9 for each player). If this is the case and not every card is in play during each set, it's difficult to know what cards your opponent has, and therefore it's difficult to form a strategy based on what you suspect they will play.
- The connection between the strength of a card (its number) and the value of the card (its "coin") doesn't seem to have any intuitive connection. This makes it hard to make any strategies around which cards to keep and which cards to sacrifice.

Other minor things such as the game seeming to cut off some elements in certain screen ratios, or the inability to hover over cards to see their details (name, coin) are present, but don't hinder the gameplay experience much, if at all.

All said, this game is very, very impressive considering the time limitation! You have a working ai opponent that managed to stay a step behind me throughout each set, very clean and beautiful ui/graphics, and simple and easy-to-learn gameplay! Well done!

Hearts is one of my favorite card games and this has a similar feel. Good job on the game.

I like how the mechanics are similar to classic trick taking games like Hearts or Whist, makes the experience really intuitive. This would work brilliantly as a physical card game, considering it's easy to explain and just play. I like the concept, although I have to say it's a bit too simple, and RNG-dependant. With some additional mechanics I think that could be improved.

Oh, also consider moving the gold indicator elsewhere, so it's visible without having to pick up the card (such as the top left corner). The cards don't have any other information to convey other than power and gold amount, so you should be able to reasonably have both be visible whilst the cards are in your hand.

The game balance is almost nonexistant and this makes the game a bit unfun to play. However, the graphics and execution of the game is pretty well. The fact that you included a tutorial is a big win in my opinion. Good job

I really enjoyed it this; loved the graphics and how balanced the game was. But I did notice a bug: double clicking a card would cause it to disappear... Other than that, nice job!

A very fun card game! It felt a bit random, and the outcome was more decided by luck than by skill, but that's a downfall of most card games. Perhaps some more ways to turn the tide when in a bad situation could help balance? Otherwise, a very fun game, keep developing!
