It is a pretty neat idea.
===Cons===
Windows Defender did not like this app.
Very frustrating. Not in a good way.
What makes it so frustrating is the fact that he just stands there for 5 seconds on the wall *not* falling whenever he jumps.
I have no idea where I have to go after a certain amount of jumps.
Long jump and short jump can get pretty confusing when they are just left mouse button and right mouse button.
======In Conclusion====
I had to quit after playing for more than 5 minutes, I just could not play anymore because of how frustrating it was. I kept pushing my self to play to see the whole thing but I just could not do it.
Some of the jumps were not very intuitive and there are some random paths that made things a bit confusing, specially with the camera being so close I couldn't plan enough without going purelly trial and error (as an example, some falls I had to react to reaching a certain point, other than timing it, if this makes any sense).
PS : I was very impressed considering the size of the file - 100 Mo. It's just disproportionate :/
Protip for future players: Use the left click if you want to climb and the right if you need a straight line to pass on the other wall.
Nice game! :)
All I can say is this : neat concept ! It reminds me of super meat boy quite a lot, yet it is very different, so good job on that front.
The graphical style is pretty nice too. All I can say about it is that the red spots on which you die stand to be improved (maybe replace them with spikes ?)
Audio is the only thing I think this game does lack, but what the hell, it's LD. No time to mess around with everything at once. Definitly look into it if you wish to keep working on it, tho !
Overall, a good entry :) Good job !
Feel free to check our game out : https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/39/berzerk-hunt We could also use the criticism !
@mikomikisomi Yeah not really so much to do with the theme it was supposed to be in the story it sorta shows in the ending (but it's so hard I doubt anyone will get too), you're "Superbman" a blatant ripoff of superman except you've run out of power and can no longer fly, you're falling and have to wall jump to survive until you regain your power.
You guys had an interesting take on the theme but I think it could have been executed a bit better. A quick cut-scene showing the hero loosing their powers perhaps? Or perhaps if you had made the level full of colour but left the hero grey-scale until they got their power back.
Finally, I think a checkpoint system would be a huge boon to the game. In the available level even one checkpoint right before the second more close quarters part of the game would have saved a lot of frustration.
The controls are great! They're really simple, what makes them really comfortable to learn and really intuitive to use. Although, the game wasn't easy at all, and presented good challenge! The graphics were clear, and allowed to see easily where you could and couldn't go. However... i'm not pleased with the camera. It was good enough... but with a game like this, i feel it could have been way better. Sometimes, it really felt i couldn't see enough where i wanted to go. I can't vote negatively for this, since the one it has works properly... but i feel it could have improved even more the game.
Overall, an interesting idea with an efficient approach! Good job!
Also I found the hitbox that you can hit with your head quite unfair.
Also, when you reach certain falling speed, the game start "ignoring" input. that make the already hard jumps almost impossible.
Oan one last thing: HUT! HUT! HUT! OUGH!
It felt like the theme was tacked on with the line 'Oh no, I've run out of power!' at the start. The theme didn't affect gameplay, so maybe next time try to tie the theme in a little more!
The game was a pretty sizeable download, and a little CPU intensive for what's happening on the screen. My computer was chugging along just to keep up, so maybe it might be worth optimizing your art or sound assets a little bit in the future!
Other than that, I had a great time playing it. Wall-jumpers are always very addictive to me. :)
I think this game would make a really popular mobile release!
I think the game would benefit from checkpoints.
My only irk is that I don't find the relation the LD theme.
