How to Play

Control two characters to manage the systems on the Last Train Out. Keep the power running and you might just escape the apocalypse.

  • Speeding up the train damages wheels, and drains fuel.
  • Hitting rocks slows the train, so keep your shield repaired.
  • Eat food to keep your stamina up after all the hard work!

I liked the game! Artwork and music is amazing!

One criticism I have to this entry is that 2 mechanics (Platformer, Management/Strategy) wasn't improving each other. You should have try to explore how these two mechanics may make each other better.

Thank you for the game I enjoyed it!

Wow!

Great graphics!
Music fits as well.
It is very challenging but fun :D

I experienced an issue with the "speed up!" notification.
Since the speed varies a lot, i was fluctiating at speed 50
causing a spam of the notification.

But overall, good game! Keep it up!

An extremely hectic management game, I constantly had the feeling of it being impossible to do everything I needed

The two character thing really puts a twist on the whole concept as the most games of this kind I have seen are either assigning a whole crowd of minions to a task or doing everything with one character, good job!

Artwork and animation is very well done, so are the sound fx (even though you opted out, well chosen :))

Solid entry

Very clever and engaging!

Could have been a bit clearer on some of the concepts like speeding up, and the power.

Other than that, most was well explained through design or text :)

The graphics in this game are amazing, and so is the audio. But this game needs instructions, or maybe some kind of an indicator of what you are doing. For me it was kind of hard figuring it out, but it is a really nice game with excellent visuals.

Nice work all around. Would have been nice to have some other stuff to do then just turning cranks, but I guess that the nature of LD and short deadlines :)

AAAHH! I FELL OFF THE TRAIN! This was a lot of fun to play, and very intense once the boulders start hitting. Visuals and audio come together very well to set a fast-paced mood. Managing all the wheels WHILE also remembering to jump past the train's platforms was the most challenging part. Also very direct implementation of the theme. Fun game overall! :)

The gameplay is fine and the art is great! reminds me to Scythe, the board game!! I only miss to have one or two extra mechanics beyond using the cranks but you did a very good job

I really like this one! You got a lot done during the jam, I love the art and feel of the game. Managing the wheels is a lot of fun, it's hard to not fall of the train! Great work, hope to see you in the next LD!

Very cool game, one of the best LD39 games I've played so far – I would like to give some constructive feedback on what to do better, but I have nothing to say .

Had a lot of fun playing this one, the art is very nice, the whole idea is super innovative, and love the concept that there are two character and you have to micromanage all of the valves. Easy to get in to hard to master. Great Job!

It take sometimes to figure out that the power is main power, It needs other system or you cannot make it good function.

I really like the art aspect of that game. The color concept works and the characters are well designed. In my opinion the gameplay needs some work on it. At the moment it feels repetitive.
Overall good job !

I finished with a high score of 7842. Was wondering if there's an ending if you survive long enough, or it's purely score based.

I loved the art and music, and the gameplay concept of controlling two characters is very fresh in an LD entry. I couldn't figure out how the valves relate to each other though, and why the progress bars filled up slowly sometimes and fast at other times. The only thing I did was to try and keep all the bars as full as possible.

"Tested on HTLM5"
I am really impressed by the quality of this game. The graphics are awesome and reach the standards of pro assets. Very nice parallax scrolling. The loop (music) is fine and fits to this very moment of tension. On top of that it does not bore me at all after minutes of playing. Sound effects are ok and provide good feedbacks about where are the emergencies on the train.
Maybe it is a matter of personal taste, but I am not fan of the movements which seem based on a physics engine. Characters are too heavy and react slowly to the commands.
I would also like some twist, something that renew and or deepen the gameplay. But I am asking too much. It is so amazing to make such a beautiful and fun game in 72h!!!
An Android and/or IPhone version could be fun.

Awesome game for game jam. It looks really pretty and plays pretty smoothly. Only thing that would be nice is more variety to the gameplay.

Graphics and setting reminds me a bit of The Rock, The Paper, and The Scissors

Thank you for all the feedback ! I barely managed to get to 12,000 when testing :D.
We wanted to add more gameplay elements like events ( FTL - ish ) but the time was short and we had to cut a lot of nice ideas. Also we left it open ended, the game eventually beats you ( rocks ftw ). Has anyone managed to reach 13,000 ?? i tried a lot but failed...

Very cool. Awesome work for 72 hours. I LOVE the background (the sreenshots are actually what drew me to the game in the first place).

Nice twist on the resource management in being able to switch between characters too.

Very challenging, it takes time to understand how to balance the different actions to make it working without crashing everything, but I manage to get 7068 points, I don't know if it's good or not but it's my best XD
Arts are detailed and beautiful, music surely adds a lot to the mood (even if repetitive), and I felt oppressed like if I was myself on this last chance train, so very good job, well done guys !

Got 12227 meters, stressfull and fun.
The graphics and audio was top-notch.
One thing that I feel could need improvement is the gameplay.
It got a bit monotonous, perhaps a feature that lets you can speed up the tasks by smashing a button would help with that.
Richard Bunn
03. Aug 2017 · 10:41 UTC
@stoffe 12227 is a great score. No one on the dev team made it past 13k so far. There were a lot of ideas that we had to cut such as events (incoming attacks, weather, radiation storms, etc) and other features of the train that would unbalance the systems and add some progression to the gameplay and reduce monotony.

We're going to have beers next week and decide if we want to make this a full game for a few $ on Steam. Maybe you guys can help us decide :)

Hi guys, your game is very great, the switch between the characters is very cool, handle this big machinery is refreshing, arts and sounds are great

By the way I have the feeling that **my game is quite the sequel**, have you tested it?

Wow really great looking game, background, foreground, characters, UI.. it just all looks so good, and animated well too! The gameplay was smooth and nice that you included M+KB & Controller support, however I just didn't find the actual gameplay stratifying, I just didn't find it find jumping between the wheels managing it all fun, maybe it's just not my kind of game. Also I probably wouldn't have bothered pressing a button to get on the wheel but rather when you stop just do it automatically. There didn't really feel like a good end goal either, no leaderboards, didn't even give me enough time to register my score just restarted quickly. Still tho, really good job maybe the best looking game I've seen this jam.

The excellent art stands out first. Neat character design, nice use of colour in your greys. Top notch.

The music and sound are also of good quality, though I really would have liked to hear those metallic boots-on-steel footsteps I was expecting, as well as something for cranking those valves.

What confused me a little was the power drain on the main locomotive valve. Does it just ramp up to a point where you can't out-repair it? Or does it depends on the systems behind it? I would have liked to have seen some kind of goal to reach rather than to last as long as possible. (Unless I simply died too soon to get there.)

Really good game!

The art is excellent. And I also like the sound and the music.

I don't like these kind of games. And I can't figure out why the power is going less so fast and I lost very fast.

Well done!

Great work! Art and sounds are fantastic. It's pretty difficult to keep track of all of the various things and I'm not even sure what most of them do. I kept running out of power and dying within like 30 seconds even though I had both people constantly turning the wheel and recharging their stamina.

Beautiful graphics and animations, the music grabs you and sets the right mood keeping me engaged, and the gameplay is kept fresh by having to switch between the two characters. I miss understood which levers to turn and at what point so I ran out of fuel pretty fast...lol but I understood the goal of the game and it is still a great entry. Nice job :D
