Last Train Out by amarcu
On PC, Mac and HTML5

How to Play
Control two characters to manage the systems on the Last Train Out. Keep the power running and you might just escape the apocalypse.
- Speeding up the train damages wheels, and drains fuel.
- Hitting rocks slows the train, so keep your shield repaired.
- Eat food to keep your stamina up after all the hard work!

One criticism I have to this entry is that 2 mechanics (Platformer, Management/Strategy) wasn't improving each other. You should have try to explore how these two mechanics may make each other better.
Thank you for the game I enjoyed it!
Great graphics!
Music fits as well.
It is very challenging but fun :D
I experienced an issue with the "speed up!" notification.
Since the speed varies a lot, i was fluctiating at speed 50
causing a spam of the notification.
But overall, good game! Keep it up!
The two character thing really puts a twist on the whole concept as the most games of this kind I have seen are either assigning a whole crowd of minions to a task or doing everything with one character, good job!
Artwork and animation is very well done, so are the sound fx (even though you opted out, well chosen :))
Solid entry
Could have been a bit clearer on some of the concepts like speeding up, and the power.
Other than that, most was well explained through design or text :)
Overall good job !
I loved the art and music, and the gameplay concept of controlling two characters is very fresh in an LD entry. I couldn't figure out how the valves relate to each other though, and why the progress bars filled up slowly sometimes and fast at other times. The only thing I did was to try and keep all the bars as full as possible.
I am really impressed by the quality of this game. The graphics are awesome and reach the standards of pro assets. Very nice parallax scrolling. The loop (music) is fine and fits to this very moment of tension. On top of that it does not bore me at all after minutes of playing. Sound effects are ok and provide good feedbacks about where are the emergencies on the train.
Maybe it is a matter of personal taste, but I am not fan of the movements which seem based on a physics engine. Characters are too heavy and react slowly to the commands.
I would also like some twist, something that renew and or deepen the gameplay. But I am asking too much. It is so amazing to make such a beautiful and fun game in 72h!!!
An Android and/or IPhone version could be fun.
Graphics and setting reminds me a bit of The Rock, The Paper, and The Scissors
A bit to hard for me...
We wanted to add more gameplay elements like events ( FTL - ish ) but the time was short and we had to cut a lot of nice ideas. Also we left it open ended, the game eventually beats you ( rocks ftw ). Has anyone managed to reach 13,000 ?? i tried a lot but failed...
Nice twist on the resource management in being able to switch between characters too.
Arts are detailed and beautiful, music surely adds a lot to the mood (even if repetitive), and I felt oppressed like if I was myself on this last chance train, so very good job, well done guys !
The graphics and audio was top-notch.
One thing that I feel could need improvement is the gameplay.
It got a bit monotonous, perhaps a feature that lets you can speed up the tasks by smashing a button would help with that.
We're going to have beers next week and decide if we want to make this a full game for a few $ on Steam. Maybe you guys can help us decide :)
By the way I have the feeling that **my game is quite the sequel**, have you tested it?

Really pleasant graphics and interesting gameplay! I like it!
One thing - is second round hardest to fill?
The music and sound are also of good quality, though I really would have liked to hear those metallic boots-on-steel footsteps I was expecting, as well as something for cranking those valves.
What confused me a little was the power drain on the main locomotive valve. Does it just ramp up to a point where you can't out-repair it? Or does it depends on the systems behind it? I would have liked to have seen some kind of goal to reach rather than to last as long as possible. (Unless I simply died too soon to get there.)
The art is excellent. And I also like the sound and the music.
I don't like these kind of games. And I can't figure out why the power is going less so fast and I lost very fast.
Well done!
