warehouse_simulator by silvio

made by silvio for LD 42 (COMPO)

a game about managing a warehouse. it does not have many features but I liked the idea of a simulator and went with it. you can buy robots though that help you.

the goal of the game is to deliver 1000 boxes in one week.

I have to admit the game is not that fun actually. After you acquire some robots you can watch them do their work. I had so much more features in mind that not make it into the game for time reasons. I'm still proud though that it is kind of complete and without any (known) major bugs.

CHANGELOG: today 13.08.18 I released a new version of the game. I did not add any content/features! I only fixed some gamebreaking bugs: - when expanding the warehouse tiles were not updated correctly so the ai did crash or behave weird - made changes to the ai so it won't get stuck in certain tasks and stop working - removed a debugging command that gave unlimited money in the shop

16.08.18: html5 version has been added to the itch io page for convenience. besides that game is identical to compo version.

Fun game! I included it in my compilation video series of the Ludum Dare 42 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/VOykmSuQEhg

Art style is so simple and clear. It is beautiful. I really liked the UI interaction of the game(Highlighting numbers and scanning progress bar).

First, good things: simple idea, clean implementation, very responsive animation - the game has a complete feel to it and scores high for graphics for me. What I don't like about this is that you have code for the box but then also have color. I understand that without the color, player would be frustrated because they can't remember the code. But then what you did was basically a box with color but you only show the color of the box if player stand next to it, otherwise it becomes grey. If that is intended, then Im not feeling it. If not, then maybe you can just visually map the color to the box, that would be wayyy better from the player perspective. Probably you will have to code more, but that's the job of the dev, player's shouldn't come close to a box to have it shown its color only because the dev want to skip the implementation. Just my opinion, I tried to be constructive, hope you find it helpful!

@nam-nguyen thanks for your feedback. I don't know if get exactly what you mean but I went with a more realistic approach. the guy can only remember one code and if the box that he is standing next to happens to be a box that is requested that code is highlighted in the request list. It is intended that the player has to look for the correct box.

Hey, you have an upgrade system and robots!
Gameplay is fun and music groves, it was quite hard as i am not use to 'wasg'-controls
And the retro graphics (especially the ui) reminds me of old industry-terminal screens, love it

This box management concept is very interesting! I think that varying the objects to handle and give them different characteristics could greatly improve the gameplay of this little game! Other than that, I really like the minimalist style with pixel art and animations! Great job! :)

By the way please feel free to leave us some feedbacks on our game!
