Use Arrow Keys to move.

Everything apart from the Font and the composition of the melody I'm using was made from scratch in the last 26 hours. The 'Chicken Dance' is obviously not my original melody the other sounds I did with my voice and some editing :-)

Enjoy and good luck to Everybody else!

Edit: I want to thank everyone for playing my game, rating and leaving feedback! It is truly appreciated :-)

I've had some time to improve and add some of your suggestions to the game and uploaded a "post-compo" version. Changes: - Added Snakes as additional Enemies! - You now have to pick up toast slices to grow your ducklings! - You can now knock out crocodiles by hitting the back of their head! - Crocodiles now slightly turn towards you to make it a little harder. - Spawn Rate of Crocodiles increased. - Multiple wild ducks depending on how many ducklings you have! - Added option to display hitboxes. Use this to see how close you can get to the enemies! - Added some background waves - Made player trail a little nice looking. - Added blood splatter

Nice, really fits the theme well and I like how you can kind of control the difficulty yourself. I would have loved some bonus things to go after like a piece of bread or something.

This game is cute :3 It's like that old caterpillar game, but you're emotionally invested in your segments. Turning felt a little too slow, so it was hard to react to crocodiles, and suddenly you hear a multitude of chomps and think "NOOOO" as you die a little inside.
Good stuff.

I had some issues with controls. If I make a sharp turn and then press down the player shoots into the corner and can no longer be controlled.

But I love the idea and it's very soothing to watch. Nice graphics too!

Thanks for the kind feedback everybody :-)

@mrphil , Thanks, I was trying to implement it in a way that if you play safe you can survive almost for ever, but if you want to score quicker you'll have to take risks. Glad it somewhat worked out ;) Was planning on adding bread and only spawning other ducks and letting ducklings grow everytime you eat bread. Unfortunately didn't have time to. I only implemented the mechanism of the chicks growing at all like an hour before the deadline. Before that the game had even less aim :P

@peculiarcarrot , You wouldn't believe how many chicks haven't made it through development :'(

@kkneville , Thanks for pointing that out, turns out it was a typo. Now I just noticed that I maybe shouldn't have pushed the fix on the branch I've submitted to the compo :P Will try to seperate that later so that the entry is in the state it was at 3am :)

@great-bobleny , Thanks ! That's a pretty high score. Much higher than I've ever done myself :D

I liked it! The controls felt super nice. If anything it was too easy. Maybe ramp it up at some point?

This is a really interesting take on the theme. Had a lot of fun playing this, the controls are really well-designed. No sound played for me, though :(

fun take on what is essentially snake. I like how you get shorter with time, but are incentivized to keep your "tail" longer. Also, the tail lagging is a nice touch.

Got 11100 before I gave into the alligators mouth. I like that the ducklings turn into adult ducks and swim away. I think the alligators should be able to eat ducks that are not apart of the family yet though as well. I also wish that the alligators made more of an effort to try and eat me. Nice job.

This is really well made. There's just enough complexity. Each new mechanic I discovered made me appreciate the game more.

Really nice game, was quite enjoyable to play but I think the alligators could have posed a bigger threat. Good entry overall :3

Pretty neat, chill game. Didn't really pose enough challenge for my personal tastes. Could probably use more variety in ducks/enemies but given the time limit thats understandable. Other than that this is a solid well put together game

Haha, it only took the music to make me crack up :D

Snake with ducks, great idea, I love it! Simple, but effective graphics, the mechanics work flawlessly, very nicely done. The stats at the end are cool, but in order to motivate me to play again, there would have to be a little more. It's a good and proven concept, but you may need to implement another "twist" to make this appeal to a larger audience. For a compo game, great job! I enjoyed playing. :)

Cool combination of snake and an asteroids-like game. Music was clever, graphics were nice, and it played really smoothly (although for some reason the framerate was terrible on firefox - I had to use chrome for this one). While it definitely gets more challenging with 10 ducklings in tow, this is kinda offset by the fact that they slowly leave and the alligators don't seem to get any more abundant. I felt like I could've gone one forever...made it to a score of 600k before I just gave up.

Enjoyed playing!

Fun little game. There was something oddly satisfying about how the duck moved. Well done!

One of the best Compo games I've played, a simple idea well executed.

Final score. 156145

After a while I started experimenting with walking on crocs. Just avoid the head :D

@mess110 I just added a post-compo version where you can knock the crocodiles by hitting the back of their heads!

@xynal , @taiku, @saucygames, @tay, @radmccool, @alottabit, Thanks for your feedback :-) You're all right, the crocodiles were too easy, I added snakes and made the crocodiles more dangerous in the post-compo version.

Everybody else: Thanks for playing and leaving such kind feedback. I very much appreciate it :-)

It was fun! I think the tails need to get longer or the ducks shouldn't grow up. Should ramp up in intensity with more crocodiles and ducks. That would make it fun for longer. Concept was nice though and the graphics are cute.

Nice entry! great use of the theme. It needs a bit more sound effects in my opinion. Good job!
