Space Trader by multiplexor

[raw]
made by multiplexor for LD 41 (COMPO)

Space Trader comes alive mixing the genres "Shoot'em up" and "Match 3" where you have to intelligently manage the space on your ship with match 3 mechanics while killing enemies and destroying meteorites left and right!

Controls: - Move with arrows - Shoot with left Ctrl - Use Space to throw a bomb (Limited charges) - Materials will be collected when touching them with the top part of the ship

HowToPlay.png

In Space Trader you collect materials by destroying meteorites and power ups by destroying space pirates! You can sell your materials when you reach a shop and then you can purchase upgrades and repair your ship.

Each subsequent sector the enemies and hazzards become stronger and harder to take out, so make sure not to miss on those upgrades!!

Update: - Added some fixes and adjustments to the WebGL version (nothing big, just some quality of life improvements). - If you'd rather play the first uploaded version, you can use the Windows one :)

I can't believe this is a compo game! Well done, a few bugs (in the browser version at least) and needs some balancing, it was a little slow. But overall I really enjoyed it!

Very nice work, and fun to play. Graphic quality is excellent, and the idea is simple but well-executed.

I would have liked an option to skip the (very slow) pre-level scene each time I died. It got tedious while I was still figuring out the controls and mechanics. The somewhat sluggish actual gameplay didn't bother me, and seemed fitting given that I was flying a cargo ship.

Thanks for the game!

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

I did a reupload of the WebGL version with some fixes and adjustments (Changed the respawn process to bring you right back into action) and fixed some colisions! Adjusted as well some prices on the shop that did not make sense! Thanks ya'll for the support! :)

Dude, very nice game, I have really long and good time with it. Maybe speed of movement should be faster. Mechanic with match 3 fits the game.

Well done my friend!

Very nice and clean graphics. Really like the visuals Gameplay felt good, fitting audio. Overall a very complete game.

Only two small issues - I would like the match-3 to work outside of the columns, I can get a row, or an L shape for example; the intermission sequences can get long.

Hey man, nice entry. Here are my thoughts:

**Good**

The little flame effect on the spaceships is pleasing

The sound effect of the text being displayed seems like a better tone than most I hear

The unloading particle effect is real nice

I like that the last item gets dropped if the column is full

**Improvements**

To me, it's just a little too hard to align your ship to the row. Maybe make it a little bit easier

I'd like the option to use WASD, my hands are in new territory with this game

I think that some of the animations are slow. Like when the Buy menu appears and when the gates open, it just takes a while when you add it all up

Great game overall, probably one of my most highest scored. See you in the next jam.

Great game! However the cut scenes were a bit to slow and I couldn't skip them so each time you reach the end of the level you have to wait a bit before the ship docks and everything. I found it annoying the ship moves a little bit to the opposite side when you let go of the buttons, this makes the match 3 element of the game much more unpredictable in a frustrating way.

All in all a good game, keep it up!

Yeah! Another concept mixing puzzle match and shoot'em up. Great entry here. Love the idea to match the loot to upgrade your ship and get some credits at the end of the sector. The global atmosphere is really impressive especially for a compo entry! Great job! :D

I guess I needed an easier "Level 1". I gave it 4 or 5 tries but wasn't getting much better. This would be great on a taller screen with a little more visibility. Impressive for a 48 hour entry. Thanks for the game.

Just an overall excellent and polished entry, right from the title screen to graphics to audio to UI! Really impressed with all you managed to accomplish in 48 hours. Maybe slightly faster pacing would help, but other than that, nothing much else to comment on!

Amazing game, congrats. A really good mix of ideas that fit perfectly. Great art style and music. Fun, tricky and with a good level up system. The only think that I had some issue it's the controls, since when i move to left/right it moves a bit too much and sometimes i cannot put a power up in the correct slot. Overall, an excelent idea well implemented!

I was very good at knocking the things with the front corner of the ship and sending them spiraling off the screen!

I agree with the comment about how hard it was to line the rows up. It might be possible to improve this without actually improving it, but by adding in some visual feedback about where it's going to end up if you don't touch the controls.

Controls felt a little sluggish and I wasn't sure, but it felt like the ship would drift a bit when I wasn't expecting it. I also didn't feel like I had enough time to kill most things and dodge asteroid shards when I got them. Perhaps it would play better in a portrait aspect ratio?

Good job!

Really awesome Game. The Space shooter works perfectly with the puzzle game. The Sound is really good and the graphics look amazing too, creating a fitting atmosphere. And that all in 48h I'm really impressed.
