Hi and thanks for checking out my Ludum Dare Entry. I feel a strange sense of euphoria actually submitting ahead of time rather than at the deadline scratching anything playable together. I guess a theme I actually liked and an idea of the bat helped with that one.Logo.png

So my game is called Recoil and is based on classic hacking mini games that everyone loves.....right RC.png

I made it using Unity, Blender, Bosca Ceoil, Paint.net, MSpaint, BFXR & Audacity and I think it is my most playable LD Game Yet Title.png

so please rate and enjoy, everything you need to play should be in game but just in case

Connect one point of a hex grid to the other by rotating tesla coils, left click clockwise, right click anticlockwise. simples SS5.png

Have fun and please leave a comment with any feedback, I always try to play the games of people who leave comments first

Game instructions : - Connect the green based starting coil to the green based end point(left to right),
Left click - rotates coil clockwise,
Right click - rotates anti clockwise,
1 charge per rotation,
5 charge to buy a hint,
Your time is ranked with B or higher awarding charge bonus,
Levels are procedurally generated increasing in difficulty, how far can you get before running out of charge?

A playable version, Downloadable version and the source are all available on Itchio https://cynicalmonkey.itch.io/recoil

if you download please play in 640x480 as that's what it was built to be, forget to limiti options in build because I was tired

Really Cool Game! I got to level five on my first try and then couldn't beat that. Is there a finite number of levels or is it randomly generated?

it will keep going but gets a bit buggy around 20 levels in

I wish I had known at the start that right click and left click turn them different directions, haha. So many wasted moves as a result. Nice little puzzle game.

I lost at level 10. Great puzzle game, mechanics are interesting, sometimes it's a bit laggy but that's definitely ok. Overall, game is good.

**Overall game impression:** My god this is fun!!!! I played 3 times, first time got to level 5, 2nd to 7 and 3rd try to 15. I'll come back and play more later. This is really fun! Good job. I really like how you use power to rotate and such and I love that it's all generated, new challenge every time! Very cool! Good job. Super fun and very entertaining. I love puzzle games!!!!

**Suggestions and comments on improvement:** I'd love to see a "restart level" and having like 3 batteries which power a "restart level" which get used up every time you press "restart a level" and every 5 levels or so obtaining a new battery to power "restart a level" would be nice! Other than that I have no complains or other recommendations

p.s. check out my game as well please

Lots of fun! Figured out the mechanic and got it right the first level. So you did a great job tutorial wise! It did get super difficult after the second level. Thanks for the game :)

@vkmiro I like the battery idea, didn't think of that

here is what was on my if there's time wishlist-
Two end points that both need powering
Two start points that have to get to the same endpoint
loop puzzle mode - everything has 2 connectors and you have to get power to every coil

but I wanted to polish what I had rather than complicate things.

Fun to play, i would like a restart button for the level so i dont have to start from level 1 when i fail and i fail a lot :)

A nicely designed puzzle game. Great use of the theme. :)

Lol, nice use of the chess pawns, I didn't notice until about three levels in, but then it gave me a good laugh.
Overall, it's a great game, and I am curious to dive in to the source to figure out how you made the map generation. The soundtrack does get a bit repetitive, but it's a nice backdrop to working the puzzles.

Nice concept for a mobile game. I like the music and how everything fits together.
How is the rank calculated? On first level sometimes I get B for 4 moves, then B for 10 moves, then D for 5 moves. Is it related to time? Because I couldn't get any A's, even on first level.

Also, there seems to be no way to get back from game to main menu other than loose/win first.

Very fun game! Really love these cute little puzzle games, and you nailed it! The only thing was, the area you could click on the pylons was far too small to me. But, ignoring that, great job!

This is a great take on the genre. I've seen a few entries this Jam that revolve around this concept however I think your one is something different! One issue I had is when I see the game over screen it says "next level", which doesn't work. I'm assuming that would be a restart button but you forgot about it ^^

I enjoyed the game. I like the more unique take on the wire connecting game and it worked well. I felt the difficulty scaled nicely over time and the random levels made it interesting every time. Good job with it.

Nice puzzle game ! The core mechanic is smart and fun, but I think it's really hard very quickly or maybe my brain is too slow ôô very interesting take on the theme btw :)

The mechanic on this is fantastic fun :) The only gripe I have is with the left and right click being difficult to work out in my head intuitively, and because each move costs charge, I inevitably end up wasting a lot of power when I really shouldn't if the controls were more intuitive. I think maybe a click and drag to go to the orientation you want (still costing same power) would be better. So you click, drag to show the orientation you want, and let go to apply and deduct cost.

And the lose level menu is broken :) the "next level" button does nothing so it should be removed.

Good stuff!
🎤 Cynical Monkey
01. Aug 2017 · 09:49 UTC
The next level button is not broken, you don't get a next level you ran out of charge :) the screen went red, there's sad music, you are told you lost. All the signs are surely pointing you to the idea it's over and back to the menu for you :)

Also wouldn't it be way more broken if the next level button did work after a game over

Great game! I like the implementation of having a limited number of moves through the power system. Graphically it is quite nice and I notice a high level of polish given that all the buttons have sound and so on. Impressive for a compo!

Very nice idea and mechanics, the level of polish is great too. I have a hard time playing this game though, because I've made quite similar one in the past (not exactly but there were hexagons which you had to connect to form circuits in a similar way), which didn't have power restrictions so my first instinct after playing that is to experiment and rotate them a lot, which drains all the power really fast. I have to make conscious effort to stop myself from doing that and to solve the whole level in my mind before I move even one (which is, by the way, not the greatest thing, optimal way to solve a level involves a sheet of paper and not touching controls at all). But anyway, I've had great fun with it, great job!

One advice I have - increase the iframe height in itch.io game settings and uncheck "add fullscreen button". Unity WebGL player that you're using already has that button, but it's hard to see because it's mostly below the frame so you can barely see it.

Nice puzzle game, quite challenging. Just it's kinda frustating to go back from the start when you lose. Aside from that I liked playing this game, good job (y)

Clever puzzle game. Was confused at first because I thought you were meant to link up all tesla coils but figured out how to play rather quickly. The game has a nice quick pace and simple controls. Nice work!

Lacks some clarity in how you lose charge and what you're supposed to do, but otherwise a well executed game !

Very solid entry! Good puzzle game, well polished, graphics and sounds are pleasant, the ambiance is good, the difficulty is growing in a good pace. Could be improved with small feedback like screen shaking or changing opacity when wining a level for instance. Keep up the good work :rocket:

Great game! Was very intuitive. Easy to figure out what to do but hard to master. Well done. I suck at "puzzle-ish" kinda games so I don't really have any feedback outside of more "juice". The great hurts my eyes a bit :P

I really like this type of puzzle game where you have to flip shapes/pipe stuff around to the end, always a favourite when it shows up as a minigame. I'd say the difficulty is perfect and its a decent looking game. Good job!

Loved the mechanic and it was very simple and easy to understand, yet very fun and addictive to play. Being able to start off at the last level would have been nice.

This game was very interesting in concept. Once I understood what I was doing I had a lot of fun (unfortunately how to play was not clear enough for me and I needed to be told). My biggest complaint would be that the game has a very heavy punishment for failing a puzzle (needing to play through the whole game arcade style to get back). If there was a level select I feel that would be better. Also possibly animating the little extensions of the coils to connect to each other or something rather than just spark might make the game clearer to newcomers.

The puzzle aspect of the game is great. I like those kind of game, very relaxing... on mute. The music while you play is too exciting and upbeat for my taste. It would have been beneficial to have a more mellow tune. Overall a good entry for LD though because it is quite fun! Congrats!

Nice game you have here and I see the similarities to my entry ;-)
I love your graphics and the visual effects. Sound is also very well done and you even managed to create some music - well done!
A very good entry and I enjoyed playing it! Well done!

Really nice work. It always impresses me that people are able to make puzzle games in 48 hours, coming up with both concept and the puzzles themselves.

Cool idea, fun puzzles. Not a ton of complexity to the puzzle mechanics, so it got repetitive after a bit. Sound is good, but the music got a bit irritating. Interface is mostly great - a hint that you could go the other way with right mouse would have saved me some time. Some of the time values don't show more than one digit, which is likely just a number formatting issue. Restart level would be cool. Good work!

This was a really complete looking game. I'm impressed that you did this all in 48 hours! I couldn't figure out a solution to level 4, but sometimes I can be dense about these kinds of puzzles. The left/right mouse thing always rotated the opposite way than I expected, but this isn't a thing you can probably satisfy everyone with. The game looked polished and sounded great. You even had sound options, which is something I never find time for >.> A good entry!

I saw this on ZedKraze's stream and wanted to give it a go. It's a fun puzzler, definitely makes you think and plan out your moves. As ZedKraze said, this would make for a good mobile game; it's easy to pick-up and play for a short burst and it would really suit touch controls. The graphics are good for a jam but could do with some polishing up before a full release, particularly just making the UI more obvious. A level select option would be good too, so that you don't have to work your way up every time you play. If you are adding features, maybe include a node that isn't necessary to make your path through but if you do, you get bonus moves the next level. Also, a restart level option, as has already been mentioned above.

I played the web version and I did feel like the mouse buttons should have been switched around, left button for counter-clockwise, right for clockwise, so I intuitively made the wrong move sometimes.

Nice, love to see logic games on LD. Cool idea and implementation, but the music got jarring after a while. I really don't like the fact that you can't just restart the current level when you lose, I lost motivation to try to beat my score like this because I don't want to replay all the previous levels. I think you could easily package a bit more polished version of this game for Steam and app stores, it has great potential!

This game is alright, it gets cluttered sometimes when you go to another flow of the game. Sometimes difficult too, due to the fact that it is a logical, point - and - clicking puzzle game.

All in all, it worked pretty well like what it should be, though the graphics aren't that polished.

Not bad! Levels were a bit easy for me, didn't feel like I was ever in danger of running out of power, even when I did a bit of clicking randomly instead of planning. Got to level 12 before I quit.

Small concept with decent execution. Good things for a Ludum Dare entry! I did find it a little difficult at the start with such little charge, and I didn't realize you only needed to connect them (thought you had to use every node), but even so this game was a nice little submission that, while not especially flashy, appears well-scoped out and made! Even regardless of the game itself, that shows good development discipline, so nicely done!
