Turn Around - When turn-based rules meets their opposite ! by ValBoise

[raw]
made by ValBoise for LD 41 (JAM)

Turn Around is a bit of an infiltration turn-based game, except one thing : you are the only one subject to this rule ! Leaving you to some tension when your turn ends and the enemy comes at you ! :)TurnAround_4MB.gif

In this game you must use your turn to get to the exit while not getting caught ! To Help you you have some actions : - Teleport - Kill enemies - Hide

Use these smartly !

This was my first solo game jam so I hope you'll like to play my little game :) It's a bit short but was really fun to make :)

Enjoy !

Wasn't super intuitive at first, but when I got a grip on it it became really fun. Nice mix om genres, love the simple art style and the golden look. The one thing I didn't like was the music, which was too repetitive. Overall, great job!

Nice game, with good mechanisms. I had some difficulties with the control at the beginning but it's still a good game.

Greeeat work.
Simple but consistent graphics. Loved the sound fx and music.
Nice game! Its mechanic could be implemented easily in a bigger game.
Got stuck in the hole level, but I'll definitely come back to it

The graphics are very aesthetic and the game played well. One thing that was weird for me were the controls. It was a little hard to control with the perspective.

The more I hear the more I think I need to remap these controls x)

Visuals are absolutely gorgeous, and presentation in general is great. I'm not sure the mix of turn-based and realtime quite works, at least not exactly as implemented here, but I'd love to see some variations on the idea. Also, having the controls be at 45 degrees to the visuals complicates things quite a lot when you're already dealing with the turn-based/realtime mix!

I defenitely need to remap these controls x)

Love the game. gameplay as well as presentation. Only the controls could be a bit better. Sometimes the character feels unresponsive (Is the Input.GetKey/Get Axis check placed in fixedUpdate possibly? That could explain that) and the action-menu keeps collapsing. While I like that the game looks so clean, there is so little visual clutter that it could easily stay extended. On my very first run I didn't even realize it was there until I needed the teleport for the first time.

Edit: One more thing (controls again) please implement [Space] = end turn or sth similar. =)

This game is gorgeous, the colors are beautiful, the interface is really clean and slick, the concept seems really cool, I really wanted to love this game but the controller really killed it for me, they are just too awkward and don't really make it an enjoyable experience to play, i was really frustrated and ended up just quitting the game after one to many deaths :confounded:

@Q-ro I'm terribly sorry the controls were so hard for you... I'm actually working on it to improve them !
But still thanks a lot for your feedback :)

Great little turn-based puzzle game with a real-time twist. Turn Around could use a bit of polish (mainly when it comes to controls) but it already looks and plays fairly well. You managed to give Turn Around a somewhat unique look using mostly cubes which shouldn't be overlooked. On the whole, it's a good game.

Very fun game! The music was a little quiet, with the volume all they way up. The puzzles were fun and well thought out!

A nice work for one person!
Very good visual and mood, but i didn't really liked the "i'm the only one to be in turn based", it was sometims frustrationg like this case : i go to the button, i need to go to the green circle, there is no more ennemies, but i still have to move, wait 5 sec, move, mait 5 sec etc...
The gameplay could be empowered and it could be a really nice game, the music was repetitive but still nice.

It's very obvious this game was well-crafted and made with a lot of love. The art was simple and charming and the music was decent. The loop did get repetitive after a while, and the volume of the main track was very, *very* quiet compared to the sound effects.

The concept of "You're the only one in a turn-based world" is neat and interesting, but it could've been better executed. I understand the need for a limited move space, but the wait time of five seconds between each turn made it very tedious to navigate some levels. If you're expanding on this further, I'd suggest you add some sort of "fast forward" to make the waiting less... obnoxious (though that's my personal opinion).

The controls were - bluntly said - horrendously awkward. The fact they were configured relative to the plane you're walking on and not to the camera angle is a decision that goes beyond me. I might just be stupid, and I realize that, but I couldn't predict what movement button would move me in which way due to this.

All in all, I truly enjoyed the game (despite my comment probably looking more negative than positive), and it's made well (sans the few points I mentioned here). Given that it's a Ludum Dare, you did a great job overall.

@LeoRototo Thank you for the feedback :D
I understand your frustration, maybe I should have left this only when there was enemies on the screen ! Thank you again !

@Snowy First of all thank you for taking the time to write such a long, precise and constructive feedback ! It's truly heart-warming (even though you thought your comment sounds negative) ! I'm taking notes on what you said and will maybe take the time to improve all this in the future :)

Thank you again :D

I really enjoyed this one!

As others have said the controls aren't really intuitive because of the perspective, but other than that it was great.
