This game looks and sounds amazing, I loved the music and graphics. I don't currently have someone to play with, but even playing it by myself it was pretty fun :) Excellent job!

I really enjoyed the retro feel! You nailed the music and gameplay! I had a bit of trouble with the controls and couldn't easily remember how to do things in the upgrades menu but I enjoyed the game nonetheless!

Couldn't play it in splitscreen, but it was fun playing alone aswell. Gameplay is engaging and very challenging! Controls were a bit hard to remember, but I guess that was necessary since it's co-op based. Graphics were also great ofc, like gasassin's always are. So in short, great entry, well done!

Excellent game! Brings the Contra feeling back and good use of the retro music! I couldn't play in coop mode but even for one player it's pretty damn fun :)

This is a really nice game - wish I had another person with me to play! I really like the graphics and the music. The controls seem rather polished as well! (remap might be nice for controllers!)

I wish there was some more variety to the enemies though, but wow. Nice job!

This game is extremely polished! I only wish, we would be able to insert coins to progress further into the game :D
Really, the only gripe is the use of the American style keyboard in the buttons used. We could not figure out how Player 1 jumps. It was still playable though. Great fun!

Smoooth! Need to break out the NES emu now! Key layout is clunky but otherwise solid.

Awesome game you have here. It's like Space Invaders had a child with Contra. Really liked the graphics and audio.

I had a bit of a problem playing on my end with the controls, but that was due to me having a split keyboard and the B/N keys being used for one of the players, which is right where my keyboard split. Maybe add an option for customizing controls in an update. Sill, the split keyboard is on me, but it's something to consider when setting up the keybinds.

Overall though, great game and really enjoyed it.

Wow nice "nes-ish" graphics and gameplay! very classic but casual at same time. Great job, congrats!
I made a pixel game too (but 16bit style), check it out if you can.

Wow, remarkably polished for a LD entry, nice work!

My only gripe is the fact that somehow the key left of 1 and above TAB on my keyboard becomes player 2's jump due to the US key layout assumed (Swedish keyboard here!)

As a contra fan, I really enjoyed the game. Not being able to stay put when shooting was a lil annoying, other than that everything was perfect for a jam game.

The gameplay was interesting, but the information on how to play was badly delivered. The command settings could be better thinked of.

Very impressive, smooth gameplay and graphic with a solid audio accompaniment. This game looks like it only need some levels and its ready to release. Good job.

Colour-blindness made it difficult to see the treasures dropped when you killed enemies. Like the contra-like graphics and music and feel. Nice job.

I really liked the art and vibe. The sprite work was fantastic, the skull boss thing especially! I wish you could hold some button to stand still and do angled shots. Good work :)

You really nailed the Contra run'n'gun aesthetics. I had a little trouble with the controls, though; I wasn't sure what button to press after I opened the upgrade menu. Essence looks a little too much like bullets; maybe it would be better to make it look like something that players want to collect, like hearts or coins?

My playthrough:

https://youtu.be/hlTk4RFRM0M

Reminded me of contra. Hitboxes were on point and controls were good.

The controls frustrate me though, because I can't shoot diagonally while being stationary, nor can I shoot straight upwards while moving. I'm not sure if it's by design or not.

Quite a nice take on the retro game - very NES era, even though it doesn't quite deliver on authenticity (rotating sprites, no horizontal sprite limit, etc.). But yeah, really solid visuals. The portraits are a great touch.

The shooting felt a little flat and the game didn't really progress much out of pea shooters prodding at mindless drones territory. I feel like you needed some form of a risk factor. I'd suggest maybe giving the elevator health and having the rocks/projectiles and monsters destroy it over time (I can even picture exactly how this would look and play out)! Just to give a sense of urgency/meaning/purpose to the game.

As others have mentioned, the key layout wasn't great. It would be good to be able to define controls (even add controller support).

Music was great by the way - the cherry on top of what was a very impressive jam for 3 days of work.

The graphics in this were great, really gave it that retro contra feel to it all especially with the shooting. Liked how the difficulty ramped up, thought it did it at a good pace. As others have mentioned it would be nice if you could configure the controls but with such a short jam time always understandable you can't get everything in.

Very solid entry! I really liked the graphics and gameplay, oldschool feelings.

I just didn't understand why the fire rate for the engineer didn't increase on updates. I think that is a bug.

Anyway, congratulations on the great game!

Lovely retro game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtXXwu1asxI
