I think its good that you leave the game to kind of 'click' in the beginning for the player. I almost gave up just before realizing one solution to the first puzzle and I felt really accomplished to have not been "just another robot". I didn't beat the game, I got stuck on the fourth or fifth level but I enjoyed it. I would prefer if there were a way to turn off the text to speech of the narrator as it can be a bit distracting especially when you might die and they begin to overlap.
Yeah, not many people actualy like the narator, aldo, I find him really funny... That's why I disabled voting on audio. And yeah, there is no music soo ... Anyways, thanks on the kind words !
@willdata
Thanks on the kind words. If you are stuck on a level, you can read the guide to win the game on the http://forums.indiegamer.com/threads/pura-the-robot-all-puzzles-solved.60810/ , if you want to :D
Didn't keep me from enjoying the game though!
Likes:
- nice muted color palette
- so many interactions
- great use of text to speech for the mood
- intelligent puzzle
- dialogue that's really monologue
Try differently:
- the fireballs have rather greedy collision detection
- a death animation would give it more meaning.
- when I take the head off, I think the collision box should get smaller.
Overall:
- really complex title
- I think I am in love with Pura
- my day is better for having played this game!
Thank you! :dog:
@thygrrr Thank's a lot on the detailed review, means a lot. I will try to fix everything suggested in the post jam version hopefully. Im glad your dad tried it :D
I did find the fireball dodging was a bit frustrating, the hitboxes were just a bit iffy and to me it felt a bit out of place compared to the rest of the game.
Definitely enjoyed my time playing it.
Microsoft Sam is perfect for narrator's role))
Stuck on random shoot gun for a while. But complete it later ;)
P.S. GameMaker rules!!))
try to adjust collision box of the fireball !
Also, i'm not sure that pushing the blocks is really what is fun in your game, so maybe an input to take the item would be better. But if you want to keep it and then challenge movement, try to work on that push mechanic cuz it's a little bit laborious already. (What you can do, is to "grid" the movement, like old pokemon for exemple, you will have a better control on your level design)
But wow, i'm sure you'r going to be a great game dev in future, keep on working, if you are really passionate, you can go on gamasutra.com one of the best site for developpement and design.
I understand the desire of making some scenario etc, but don't loose too much time on it, if you want to improve your game, because it's not the most important pole of this kind of game ! ;)
Keep moving forward.
I didn't get very far, that shooter bouncing up-and-down quickly foiled me MANY times. It would have been good to have a beam to shut it off.
Good work! :)
I found the controls a bit tricky to get into position but stuck at it and succeeded after vapourising poor Pura who knows how many times just so they could rip a limb off at the right position to block the laser.
The guns ultimately were my undoing but there was always a feeling of "surely NEXT time I can beat them" ;)
The puzzles were a bit too action- /timing-focused for my taste, when combined with having limited lives, since it means that you can have solved the puzzle, but still be forced to replay it again and again, until your timing is perfect.
However, the narrator was entertaining, and the fact that you have to leave parts of yourself in the level in order to solve the puzzles, was a fun and unexpected feature! The graphics were quite good as well.
Nice work!
>These rooms will scrap me!
>Not enough boxes... Now what?
>Who needs arms? Not me!
Your game is very original for a puzzle game!
I especially liked the dropping of body parts. Never seen that before. I thought that the boxes weren't needed anymore at that point, wrong! You made those boxes necessary once again.
Some very ingenious stuff in there!
You only need to explain some things some more. For instance, it wasn't immediately clear that the sensors were delayed. That proved to be the key in the second intro level.
I finished the game regardless.
Of course, the humor helped too! Some funny dialogue here and there. The accidental grammar mistakes actually made the dialogue even funnier.
Good and, more importantly, complete entry!
Very funny game with this sarcastic narrator directly imported from GladOs, and concept is pretty fine too.
The only thing that got me down a bit was the physics of the boxes, but i managed to finish it anyway !
It's actually a very serious entry for a compo game, you can be proud !
Well done ! :)
