A game about space!

spacey_logo.png

Story:

You are a robot stranded in outer space who is running out of energy. Help him survive by collecting batteries and upgrading your gear.

By gathering other resources such as hydrogen you'll also be able to generate energy on the fly, provided you have the proper gear for it.

Use your radar to find increasingly powerful items that will fuel your journey into the void..

Changelog:

01/08/2017 20:06 CEST - Fixed "Press Space to boost" text

02/08/2017 02:57 CEST - Fixed unusual item behaviour which would cause the ending to be unreachable

Background Info:

The world is 350.0 astronomical units in diameter. Upon leaving this area, the stars will fade away as you'll move further into nothingness.

Once you have a tier 3 radar, it'll point to "the_end". Make sure you have sufficient energy/fuel to travel there though. You might want to gear up first!

Controls:

Move by holding the Left Mouse Button and navigate by moving the mouse around!

Hit the R key to start a scan using your radar which will display nearby items.

Pressing the Spacebar will start the boost (Warning: This consumes a lot of energy).

Warning: The WebGL version will probably run at a lower framerate than the Windows version.
So if you are a performance enthusiast: Use the windows build!

Very nice!! I love the graphics, especially the starry background!

Nice work. I think is pretty cool that the player can move entirely freely and scan for pick ups. However, the gameplay is a bit slow-paced in my opinion (though that's not necessarely a bad thing). I think the game would strongly benefit from more variety in the pickups and probably a little explanation about what they do.

Very good job! The graphics and audio were great. The game play was fairly simple but still fun and gave a good incentive to keep searching for more resources. I really liked the background and GUI as well. One thing I did notice was that I was unable to pick up some of the enhancements even though I spam clicked E. I don't know if this was because I already picked it up before (I did notice that a lot of them would keep appearing as I explored) or if it may be a possible bug in your code. Overall, this is a very good game.

Nice graphics and overall experience. When it comes to upgrades I think it would be better if they were automatically picked up when they are within reach unless there is some advantage of using lower tier elements of equipment that I don't know about. I liked the small detail that player can't rotate if the engines are not turned on.

The game is incredibly beautiful and the sounds are really neat too ! I was just good to immerge you in that atmosphere, you have manage to create a real virtual world presence here, great job ! The animation of our tiny ship make it good too to move, even if I don't really like the controls for how you rotate your ship and stuff. Maybe it's a little too passive and lack of things to do, but for me the experience was still good, I just liked to move around and enjoy the graphics and the sound, the atmosphere. Nice entry mate, good job ! It deserves more ratings tho.

With a tier 1 reactor you generate your own power, but with the tier 2 upgrade this seems to stop. Is this a bug or am I missing some vital information? Because it seems impossible to stay alive after this upgrade.

Really digging the feel of this game. The music is perfect, and I love the animation on the ship (robot?).

If you have any plans for expanding this post-compo, I'd for it to have a bit more sense of direction. Not necessarily in terms of checkpointing, but some clear, achievable mini-goals would go a long way in keeping interest longer-term. At least for me.

Everyone's talking about the gameplay and graphics, which are great. But I think it's worth highlighting the opening title screen, which is stunningly gorgeous, with an amazing background track as well.

@arnage The tier 1 reactor uses hydrogen and oxygen (the 2 left-most resources to generate power). The tier 2 reactor on the other hand uses uranium to generate power, so make sure you have enough of that :)

@luckyy that makes sense, I never actually found any uranium in the playthrough where I managed to find the tier 2 reactor :)

Looks and sounds fantastic, plays well, really impressive showing.

I found the upgrade system a little frustrating. Spending lots of time flying to an upgrade that turns out to be less good than what I have -- or, in the case of the radar that doesn't detect hydrogen or oxygen, repeatedly gets me killed -- got really annoying after a while. That part could use some work.

Overall, a definite thumbs up!

Visually impressive (the sparkling stars catched me at first) yet together with a touch of pixely retro. Well done! But could use some more sfx though.

This game has a really nice aesthetic, really nice sounds, and overall makes for a great mood. That being said the controls weren't the most responsive in the world, but that is understandable considering the space setting. I didn't find the gameplay to be particularly rewarding, but you have made a really interesting environment nonetheless.
