CONTROLS:

M: Mute Music (main menu only)

GOAL: You're a crystal farmer, your job is to collect crystals from the dangerously frigid depths of the cave. Your town's power source is losing power and you must farm as many crystals as you can before your suit runs out of power, your suit slowly drains your crystal supply and replenishes it as it loses power or is damaged by enemies. Run back to the start and replenish the source from time to time.

The Updated version has the following changes made: - added key rebinding to access this pause the game and press F2 - added a guide key for when you are in the cave (in case you get lost and dont know which way to get back) -- default key is RIGHT ARROW - The first jump from leaving start point has a new platform to jump to. - The ability to Mute/Unmute music at any time - Game just got harder, now the town power supply depletes faster depending on score.

Very pretty game with a impressive amount of content.
Reminded me of Terraria.
Failed to get the last big Crystal harvested.

Really well made! The first jump was really hard. I was not sure if I am going in proper direction. Also controls seemed a little bit confusing. I have never seen shotting with left arrow. Otherwise I had loads of fun with it! :)

i think of it like a gamepad, wasd for movements arrows as the face buttons :P

Really great art. Loved the mood. The controls were a bit odd. Hard to get my brain rewired to this :p Loved that the power kept draining risk/reward. I just went deeper :p Then got lost :p

@sprouts, thanks. yea i have trouble playing with arrows for movement and left hand for actions like attack and jump. this way my brain can function :P also there is gamepad support

I had a lot of fun :D I like the way the game progresses, as you figure out the mechanics and so on. My only complaints are with the controls. The very first jump was really precise, and there were a few more like that. I also dislike that you can't aim upward next to a ladder. But otherwise, very entertaining!

@petzi, there is a jump buffer (meaning you got like 7 ms to jump after leaving the platform.)

also you can aim up at a ladder just shoot before you get near the ladder.

Impressive game, clean and nice pixel art, good sound effects and a nice fitting background theme.
And after all of that you even made a big level that's one hell of an entry.

Very good job with the game, the gameplay is fun and the graphics are amazingly well made. The audio is the most lacking area in my opinion and it breaks the mood your graphics and game create. At first running back to deposit the crystals got quite annoying and some people could see this as quite slow gameplay, however apart from that the gameplay was really fun. Good Job and best of luck!

Really well-made game. I also got confused by the controls - even for those of us who prefer a gamepad, I am used to using the arrow keys to move and not to perform actions.

The game is huge, and there is a lot to do. Running back got a little exahusting and confusing - maybe having a minimap or a trail would help?

The graphics here are very nice and I liked the music. Fighting sheep in video games will always be funny to me, though I like how you turned that around by making them tougher further in. Overall it seems balanced, though I was taken off guard by respawning enemies. I suppose that makes sense given you're meant to retrace your steps.

It seemed a bit unfair to me how you only have three directions to shoot but enemies can come at you from any direction. Also how you can't shoot on ladders, but these are pretty minor complaints. The main feature I felt was lacking was some kind of shortcut or shortcuts from the cave. The respawning creatures made it a bit less boring but didn't make it interesting enough in my opinion.

Not the most original concept but it was a fun game nonetheless. Seems like a lot of work went into it, there is a lot of content!

@bugsby-bearkeley , fair enough. i could probably add shooting on ladders and the backtracking was part of the risk vs rewards (the further you go in the longer it takes to get back and refill the power supply).
i could also do angled directions as well, i did play around with it but i didnt really like how it felt.

A really fun game!! My main complaint is that the jump off the first ladder is a pretty hard one to make -- extending the right ledge by a couple of blocks to the left would make the flow of starting the game much easier IMO. I really liked learning how all the different monsters fight!

Cool game! The idea is very cool but it's very tiring to go back to suply the cristals. Making it closer to the cave and be like the center of the map would make it more pleasant. As everyone has said already, fist jump was freakin hard xD

your suit has a power limit that slowly drains the towns power supply slowly drains
and you collect crystals to refill the power supply and allows your suit to replenish...

and if either of those reach 0 its gameover.

So, first off I do like the controls. At first I thought, wait why are actions on the arrow keys, but it's a pretty good way to emulate a gamepad on a keyboard. Also the music while odd initially (at first I thought it might be procedurally generated but then it started to come together, and I like the touch where the soundtrack changes slightly as you enter the caverns.

From a critical standpoint, I think I agree with some of the other comments that it is tedious to run back and forth through the same area over and over again. Some back tracking is fine, but having to do it many times gets irritating. There's two ways to solve this. One is to move the start location to a central area so that you have different areas to find with out the same intermediary. Another is to branch early so that you don't need to go through as much of the same area. Finally, reward the player with something that made it easier to back track such as bombs that open a hole you couldn't get through previously, unlocking warps along the way.

Finally, I think the implementation of the bats are a bit off. They move quickly often along an axis you can't shoot on and cling in a location you can't always shoot at. If you get more than one on you it can completely drain your life in a few seconds before you can break off and shoot them. Additionally, they sometimes get very fast and bounce off the walls a lot.

@dalbinblue , yea it can do with some tweaking and the bats are meant to kinda charge after you so the speed up is intentional, but buggy.

The run back part wasn't going to be part of the final game, but due to time constraints i settled for that, sure its not fleshed out and can be tweaked some more but i feel it works fine.

i was thinking of adding portals in the cave that cost crystals to port you back tot he start point but never got around to it.
