Ricochet by Adam Coles

[raw]
made by Adam Coles for LD 40 (COMPO)

Capture11111.PNG Ricochet is a fast paced twin-stick shooter in which players must survive the onslaught of red tic-tacs.

If the player shoots themselves it will instantly spawn another enemy and decreases the overall spawn time for enemies.

Controls: (Gamepad Only)

-Left stick - Move

-Right Stick - Aim

-Right Trigger - Fire

-Start Button - Pause

-Keyboard 'R' - Restart

My idea for the theme was that more bullets flying around the worse it gets, as such I created a twin-stick shooter, a game type that typically includes large amounts of spraying.

Entire game was made in Unity3D and 3DS Max. Unfortunately I don't currently have access to Photoshop so I made the entire thing with only materials.

(If you find any bugs let me know) ;)

If you don't wanna pay for photoshop, try GIMP. I used it in my game.

Seems like a good game, but you should make controls for Keyboard too. I can't play it.

Very nice game, i keep pressing "r" but i enjoy. I finished in a corner shooting non-stop ^^ Just sad there is no sound, but i understand it take time to make sound too. Ohh just one advice, click on "+" on ludum dare page and add "windows" link. No problem if it's same as source code, but i start i was thinking there was no playable version of the game ^^ Congratz for your work :)

@leof I've used GIMP in the past but after using Photoshop for so many years going back to GIMP feels really odd. I have access to Photoshop at Uni but am unfortunately not at Uni atm.
@simone @villfuk02 yeah I'm sorry about that I completely overlooked the fact that I didn't add controls for keyboard.

Not going to leave a rating because I didn't get to play (no gamepad), but it seems like an alright game. I liked the graphics, the city looked good, and the movement physics felt good.

By the way, GIMP and Krita together are the perfect open source workflow. Photoshop is nice, but getting into the open source alternatives is highly beneficial!

Having sounds would have been important. But the game looks good. I would have liked a bigger view of the world, sometimes the enemies popup really late. I really enjoy the kick back when you shoot and the movement in general.

Feels weird pressing R on a keyboard when playing with a controller. Otherwise as others mentioned, this game could have used audio greatly, other than that it plays kinda smoothly and just unleashing ricochet hell feels really fun.

Graphics and movement look good. The keyboard controlls didn't work for me except for moving.

seems like a nice game but a little tip: if you use unity for example plss upload as a webgl so we can play it online makes it alot easier to get your hands on the game to play it

The idea of ricochet as the theme for "the more you have, the worse it gets" is a really elegant design and it works beautifully. I love the twin stick genre, so I loved your game. it was responsive, difficulty level ramped up enough to allow me a little time to learn and then quickly get me into trouble. Well designed and balanced.

The game is fast enough that I would've liked a bit more overview. Instead of zooming out, maybe you could've tilted the camera a bit and make it look where I was aiming? I feel that would've been an excellen perspective.

This game sorely lacks sound, even if only a few bleeps and boops.

The capsule bad guys are a bit too standard programmer art in unity. I guess you didn't get around to making a model for them :)

Love the pace, love the idea of combining a hair-trigger bullet-spitting gun with the dangerous ricochet, and I love that the gun has enough recoil to push you back.

Cool gameplay, it takes a little, but then the controlls work very well.
I loved thet the guns delivered the feel of power when shooting (would have been great to have a sound to it too).
It was nice to see two enemy types. The shielded one are a perfect idea for the bouncing shoots.
The only thing I have to complain is that the enemys semm to spawn very near sometimes.

I play at 3440x1440 (ultrawide) and noticed some enemies spawn on screen! I think you forgot to account for different aspect ratios.

The game was fun for a bit, and the world looked really great, but after a while I noticed that the best play is to just sit in a corner. I got up to 63000 that way before the game crashed. I thought that the knockback felt a bit jumpy at times with the camera. Definitely a great concept and a nice looking game though!

Well... I was playing this game definitely longer than I should :P. It's really nice twin stick shooter, but you should add some sounds to it. Nice job! ;)

Nice concept and gameplay, but standing in a corner and shooting nonstop kinda breaks the game and gives a lot of points :)
