The Power of Hove by bentglasstube

[raw]
made by bentglasstube for LD 39 (COMPO)

You are Barty McRye, teenage friend to the kooky scientist "Toc". Help Toc recover his lost plutonium on your sweeeeeeeet hoverboard.

Controls

  • A/D - Left/Right
  • Space - Jump, Confirm

If you run out of power, you'll lose and you'll have to start all over. In fact, you'll have to Alt+F4 (or ⌘Q) out of the game and relaunch it because I never got around to having a restart button.

Made with C++ and a Wacom Tablet <3

Nice game! I think the character moves slightly too quickly and it is difficult to control jumps due to the fact that the camera doesn't show you the ledge you are jumping to next. Cool graphics!

Menu screen looked cool, but the game crashed my computer trying to start it up. :(

Pretty fun if a little hard to control. Really liked the art, especially the colour palette. A restart button would have been nice.

Nice 8bit vibe and concept. I loved the speed of the hoverboard. Missed the music :p

I like this game a lot. The platforming mechanics are great, and I like the way you select levels from the map. The power cells are nice too. I wish there was a way to see how much more plutonium there was left to collect. After I got the mid-air jump upgrade I wasn't show how many more I had to collect. The lack of a restart function is annoying, but the rest of the game is great.

I liked the visuals, audio and the back to the future theme. Good job!

Neat game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Upb0aA4TPRk

Please make the jumping mechanics more accurate. I've had some difficulty reaching the platforms.

Pretty funny. The game was a bit hard but I liked that you had to replay levels once you got more powerups

C++ from scratch? Nicely done! The art is a triple A quality from the 8bit times ;D

I'm terrible at platformers, so didn't get much out of the game, the difficulty overwhelmed me, but from what I've seen - impressive.

The physics were too floaty for my taste, but I enjoyed the colors!

Nice game, the concept is well used with a variety of platforming section (long jump, precise jump, bunch of little platforms... and so on).
The art reminds the 8-bit era pretty well.
The only drawbacks are the lack of music and restart button.

Well done :)

Unfortunately I cannot play your Windows 64 bit game on my 32 bit machine, could you add another build?

The game is fun because of speed and parody. But hoverboard is way too bumpy and hard to control.
