splash.jpg

Welcome to True Korea's best and only card game, Jangnanmon! Here you will fight epic battle, engage in many victory and conquer imperial cowards in completely fair and realistic card game! The rules are simple. One player will play with a deck of 15 superior True Korean cards and the other shall be given a deck of 15 much weaker and purposely unbalanced "Crapitalism" cards. The goal is to beat the other player in combat with your deck by eliminating all of their cards. Sound easy enough, Mr. Coca-Cola or do I need to explain it again?

Stuff used that isn't ours: * North Korean propaganda images * Portraits of certain high-profile individuals and places * Elton John's "Rocket Man"

The best: I didn't expect a game like that, and I say that as the best thing hahaha

The worst: That was SO MUCH text (dialog) at the begining, it almost made me quit before actually playing, glad I didn't though.

I don't know why, but I expected a warning before getting shot, literally made me jump. I liked the story and that you had to play to lose, certainly a new way to play a game! The game itself was a little confusing though (perhaps the point) but it's hard to work strategy when you're not entirely sure what the enemy has as sometimes the cards are obstructed by other HUD elements or sometimes each other.

Good polish and an interesting experience, would get shot again, good job! :grinning:

A lot of text only to get executed after the first turn.

I like the idea of forcefully loosing a card game however, it felt that the cards were a little too unbalance to make it a real challenge.

Dat ending tho

Very fun! It's nice to see something with an original story like this! Good job

Absolutely amazing!

The best game I played so far.

I didn't really know what I was doing, but the metagame/dialogue was really funny.

Sometimes at the end of a game the other party would just not play a single card for like 5 turns. Don't know if that is intended behaviour.

Here's my feedbacks:
from the start its really handy you can download an unzipped .exe, straightforward, nice
the cover picture at the top of this page is super pro-looking, congratulate the graphist for me if you can :D
antivirus was a pain but that wasn't a blocking issue
soon as the game actually starts, the wall of text is a bit steep IMO
I read a total of 0 text for the whole game ^^# a lot of skip
it may be a good thing - then I can rediscover the game later on because it turned out to be good <3
But in general yeah there is way too much text

then
the actual actual gameplay
at the start it's a bit overwhelming
then punishing
then forgiving
then I won level one thinking the way to win is just use all your points fully all the time
then lost level 2 with this strategy in the end

and then there was that dictator from north korea
that made me lol

1st Ludum Dare 40 game I play so far and I really liked it
Congrats!
I hope you get a good grade

Take care have a good night of sleep take care :-3

I don't mind so much text, when it's helps like here to understand how to play and make the mood. However, it would be better to let the player pass the long long text when he read it at least once…
And when opponent cards are on to play, it's not possible to see their effetcs and values, that is a problem to play wise…
That said, it was the only annoying things in that game, I enjoyed playing it anyway, so good job :)

This game felt like it was inspired by a fever dream. I choose to believe that every decision here was made deliberately, from the writing (i liked it!) to the music (sounds randomly sequenced).

Great job!

That was novels worth of text. Hilarious but maybe slightly too long.

Shot for assuming that I, an imperialist pigdog, could assume to win Best Korean card game.
10/10 would be executed again.

Oh man, we considered a card game for a while because, and I quote, "I've never seen someone do a card game in LD before".

Well, we didn't. But now I have!

My only complaint is that the intro is super long and unskippable (at least I didn't see a way to skip it).

Thanks all for the feedback, I think we've learnt a very important lesson about intro length XD
Glad to see you guys like it! <3

As the man behind the wall of dialogue, I thank you all for your honest feedback and criticism. Next game, I swear I won't just write a novel 😉.

This is incredible. I didn't think that the dialogue was too long, and it made me smile all the way through.

This is the funniest game in the jam so far and it was a blast just reading through the idiotic dialogue and how you will always lose anyways.

Cool Dialogue System and a reeally juice Drag and drop syste.

Some minor flaws:
Is there any way to skip the dialogues?
The default window size was a bit too small ( had to resize it to see all of the stats of the cards).
The AI didn’t do anything for like 5 rounds

Hey! I enjoyed that a lot!! Really clever and interesting take on this ludum dare. suprisingly difficult to lose! Is it possible to lose "too quickly" and get shot that way? Loved the atmosphere/situation we were put in. Could definitely use a "skip" button for the second time playing.

Thanks for the feedback! There was actually a bug at one point where if you won too quickly it wouldn't register at all so you'd just be stuck playing Jangnanmon forever; fortunately that was patched out a few hours before submission.

Too much text. But good game

Very cool game and a nice take on the "Collectible Card Game" genre. I liked that you created a brand new card game to play that requires you to lose. The only complaint on my part is the walls of text throughout the game. It's kind of hard to follow when there was so much.

Great job!!

This was a really creative idea. Loved the witty humor. I played it a few times more since the stream last night, and wish there was an option to skip the text if you've already seen it. There is a ton of dialog in the game, which isn't always a bad thing, given the humor behind it, but being able to skip it would go a long way.

I love the different art for the cards.

One thing I mentioned on stream that I want to mention here as well is that on some turns the AI wouldn't do anything. Wasn't sure at first if that was intentional, or something else. It happened a couple of times though, one for a few turns, and another for only one turn.

Hey I played your game in my latest video and strained my voice too much. And I am not sure I fully understand how to play the game ;) https://youtu.be/BgkQxnrr8sU
