Sacrificed Dimension by Vatigo

[raw]
made by Vatigo for LD 43 (JAM)

dddgif.gif

A 3D game where you sacrifice the perception of the third dimension.

You only see 2D slices of the 3D map and you need to find the key and get to the door.

Use A and D to move left and right, use Arrow keys to rotate the camera.

Fun game but maybe make it a little 3d so you can see what rotation you are on

I absolutely love this one!
It's such a mindtrick what you have going on! Although I will say, i figured out it was easier to only look at the minimap by the 2nd level :stuck_out_tongue:
no clue how you did made these levels!

Very fun, would love to see more! It would be great if there were enemies or other elements that wouldn't be visible on the map. Pretty quickly I grew accustomed to only watching the map and having my side scrolling controls translated to topdown movement. Well done :)

Very nice done, interesting interpretation of what Fez does. The map felt needed to understand the mechanics but helped maybe too much in later levels.

I found this game to be too difficult to wrap my head around. Maybe an easier level one would have gotten my mind situated faster?

Nice concept. Reminds me heavly FEZ :)
Almost no bugs - iglitched once on moving platforms and fall down, although platform later pushed me back to islands (i was floating then and could move freely over the world :D)

Feels polished, music is chilling although it is lacking some menu - you are unable to quit game after you beat last level...

I super love the concept! I can see you have taken a lot of inspiration from the game Fez, which is good! I loved that game, and I love approach too :) I can see how some people are saying the difficulty curve is way too steep in the first level (it wasn't for me, since I'm used to these kinds of games), but in general it's good practice to make your first levels practically un-failable, so people can find their feet, and aren't scared off! One other thing: because there is a top-down map, I ended up spending a large part of my playtime looking at that, and just using the 2D view to get my bearings as to which direction I was walking. I'm not sure if this is intended, but you could possibly fascilitate this by give the topdown map and the 2D an even amount of space on the screen (just a random suggestion.) Anyway, I think you did a great job on making this game! It feels sturdy, intelligent, challenging and fun. Good job on making it!

It's surprisingly pleasant to walk around in this game. The map helps a lot compared to Fez (at least in my memory of Fez)...

Hmmm, I don't know, I just ended up playing the whole game looking at the map.

But I really liked the graphics !

This is a great, really nice to play game! Graphics are neat, gameplay and controls are clear, music is calm enough to just chillout and focus on task :D I really appreciate an idea to add mini-map - it is very polished and moreover it makes that you have better orientation in lvl. The one disadvantage of this game is that... it ends too soon :D I want more levels! But of course I know you have here time restriction but I'm waiting for more and more - please, give info if you'll manage to publish more levels (anywhere) :) Good job and well designed levels! :)

PS. I love an idea with moving platform, either! It requires quite fast reaction during moving! So you managed to give even more fun in a puzzle game! Perfect! :D

I find it easier to play looking to the minimap. Funny game. Congrats!

At first I thought it was using the core mechanic from Fez as people have suggested above, but actually it is subtly different in a cool and puzzle mind bending way. I like what you have done with it! Great entry!

Made me feel smart and angry at the same time, so for a puzzle game, good job. Really smart idea. Reminded me of Fez and for some reason I thought of Portal (I know, no ascetic similarities, no humor similarities, but that's what popped into my head).

Really great game. It is very fun. It is just the right level of tricky to be entertaining. Great music choice as it added a really good mood to the game

Like other reviewers, this kiiiind of reminded me of Fez. And a bit of that one Paper Mario game, too! I like games that challenge my brain like this. :) I did also mostly use the minimap, but it was still quite cool. I'd love to see future iterations that use the 2d mechanic even more in-depth, kind of like how Monument Valley does. There's a ton of potential here.

Whoa! Exciting idea here. The execution didn't grab me as much as I was hoping (I ended up just using the minimap and treating the loss of depth as just a fancy "fog of war"), but I think you've grabbed onot something really neat here. Nice work!
