Snake out of Power by Anno

[raw]
made by Anno for LD 39 (COMPO)

Hello LD39!

All of the sudden I forgot the date of the 39th Ludum Dare. I just discovered that it's happening in the late hours of Sunday.. But this won't hold me back!

This small game was created in around 4 or 5 hours. It is snake.. with a small twist.. you are running out of energy ;)

Hope you like this small game anyway.

Tools I used

  • Engine: Unity
  • IDE: Visual Studio 2017
  • Art: Paint, Pyxel Edit
  • Sound: bfxr (Great for all kind of sounds...especially if you only have a few more minutes left and want to add some kind of sound)

Things I learned

  • Using a calendar to not forget about the next LD
  • Streaming the development is a great way to keep you hooked to your project, but it can distract you
  • pg.lost is a great band!
  • Just do it! You don't need all the time to get anything done ;)

Way to make something at the last minute! You pulled it off pretty well!

Its basic snake but with an additional mechanic and that is pretty great! Really good for a game made in 4-5 hours. Hope you enjoyed this LD

Nice job making something complete on such a short timeline! A nice twist on a classic fun formula, and the core felt nice with snappy controls. I did feel the pickup sound was a bit ear-piercing but it's impressive you had sound at all!

The running-out-of-energy really adds a lot to Snake! Way to get it done last minute, that is clutch.

That twist on a classic snake game was super effective. I just screamed "NOOOO" when the lights went out, hoping that the snake would get a battery recharge.
This is also an awesome way to spend the last hours before the submission hour at Compo.

This was a great idea to get done quickly. I really like it. Just snake but with powerups to keep the lights on. Great job.

Actually a whole lot of fun... that feeling when you know your gonna hit a battery bit just went pitch dark. then back to light we're safe. its extremely polished for what it is. It does what its built to do well!

I enjoyed playing this. The small twist to snake definitely changed how I played. I enjoyed the retro sounds, added to the mood.

Glad to know I was not the only one to make a game last minute :D
You did a good job!

I see the game was made very last minute and it is a decent execution for that, but the audio is just so loud and obnoxious that it was hard to play. I did like how you made screen brightness tied to battery. It was a nice touch of polish

A retro game with a nice little touch was awesome. I loved it. And, wow, 5 hours... haha. Well done, great entry.

For what it is, it is well done. It plays well and battery mechanic added a nice twist to the classic game. For spending such a small amount of time, it felt clean and you did a good job with it. Also, I enjoy the fact you can still play while its dark in the hopes of running into the battery.

For me the controls were a bit laggy and the sound effects weren't nice for my ears, too. But for 5 hours it was a really great job! :0)

A really nice twist for snake that makes you responsible for 2 objectives while one of them isn't constantly needed! It's really simple but great for such a short time to work on it.

Pretty good game for such a short amount of time! I kind of like its simplicity with your interesting take on a classic game. Makes an already addicting game even more interesting!

I got 12 on my best run, then I missed a battery as the lights went out. I guess my strategy became to grab 2-3 batteries for every food I ate, because that kept everything visible. Fun adaptation of a classic. Sounds were a little harsh. I enjoyed the experience; nice work.

simple but fun. It's nice to have to decide to take battery or block.
