placeHolder by tetra

made by tetra for LD 40 (JAM)

A shmup where your bullets ricochet off everything and never go away! My first LD. It's called placeHolder because I didn't want to spend ages on a name :D

Nice take on the theme, it is nice mechanic having to balance how many shots are on the screen because otherwise it becomes very overwhelming!
The audio of the bullets exploding was very harsh however, not sure about the best way to fix it, maybe reducing the enemies that split into two might help or maybe adding some variance in the audio. Also some bullets seemed to randomly gain a massive velocity compared to the other bullets

I loved the mechanic, I don't think I've ever seen that in a game before. Definitely fit the theme well. I loved watching the screen fill up with bullets then trying to dodge everything lol.

Loved this. Great example of taking a simple idea and fleshing it out as far as you can. The audio is a bit rough, but it's great otherwise.

The game itself is good fun, but the sfx from killing the bugs really grates on you after a little while.

Love the idea. It was fun and hilarious to play. It is quite difficult, and the foreground was confusing sometimes, but other than that it was very enjoyable! Very nice, especially for your first entry! Looking forward to seeing you back!

It's fun, it's difficult and I like different levels idea. This game have great potential, more levels, not so disturbing audio and I will buy it :)

@tetra Hey, what is this written in? I can't find anything that would point to a specific engine

Love the concept of the game! Controls are really nice and art is really well done.
- The walls have places where the spaceship gets stuck, and its frustrating dying because of that.
- In my opinion the bullets that hit enemies shoud disappear, that way you reward the player for being accurate with his shots.

Overall great experience, well done!

Nice Game, i like how you can solve the levels by using the bullets. I had the problem, that on my system the graphics got a little blurry but maybe that's just here.

This was a great idea! Really original approach to the theme. I found it a bit difficult but that's my fault. The game is really well made, congratulations!

Absolutely loved the idea: saturation in the first levels is a still a good strategy because the enemy couldn't avoid the bullets but the player can. I didn't get how to destroy the "boss" on level 4

Very cool idea. I won boss with great pleasure.

Found a winning strategy. It is should to build such barrier walls.
