Robot Infiltration by unnamed1334

[raw]
made by unnamed1334 for LD 39 (JAM)

The robot army is attacking and you have to stop them.

However, the army to too strong to take on directly and will repair the damage you do.

Combat_small.PNG

The robot army does have one weakness; the robots need a constant supply of power to keep running. Taking out the towers will leave the robots powerless.

Taking out the generator will stop the robot army.

Controls:

W-A-S-D to move

Left mouse button to shoot.

Right mouse button to look around.

Hints:

The robots are not very smart. If they lose sight of you, they will only look at the last place they saw you.

Some doors are powered by a distant tower.

The room in the back contains the factory. Take out the tower near it and the robot army wont be able to make any replacements.

Update:

8/2 - Added a WebGL version of the game.

cleared it on normal, one of the most fun ludum dare games I've played, very neat use of theme, tight controls, simple but sufficient graphics. Only thing lacking I'd say is SFX, but the music is good.

Very fun and challenging. Simple graphics but I could make out what each enemy was. Nice game!

Could definitely do with some more feedback for whats going on, understanding what I was doing was tricky at first, but once I figured it out I played it to completion and had a lot of fun.

Woah, really fun game. Quite challenging which is good and liked the music. I really liked the way the camera panned around the map in the menus and the 3D health bars.

There's some very impressive stuff going on here. Enemies seem to have some pretty good good path finding? Also, I believe getting mouse pointing controls like for an isometric game can be a little tricky? But you did it in a weekend so nice job. I also think you got a lot of mileage out of cubes for your art, it looks good. The audio stands out to me a lot as a problem though. Sounds original which is impressive, but it does not fit the mood. I think piano is not a good instrumentation choice for this game. I think robots demand synth (which was there I believe) and drums (which was not). Also, there is no other SFX, such as the player shooting or getting hit, which is an important part of player feedback for a bullet hell game like this. I only tried normal and below, but the difficulties seemed to only turn the enemies into bullet sponges? I think less difficulties with more testing/refinement is better than more difficulties with less testing/refinement. Overall, I think this is an impressive weekend project and hope you are proud of it.

I was impressed right off the bat by the option of changing the difficulty!

I liked the art (although I get the impression you had plans to do more with graphics, it still looks nice :-) ).

The controls were simple and straightforward, also good. I could get playing without too much trouble.

I felt a lot like the combat was a war of attrition. The robots seemed to take a long time to bring down even on the easier difficulties. I found I wanted to just run past them altogether because I had a hard time liking the combat. The difficulty, as far as I could tell, affected firing rates and maybe my robot's health... but I can't be too sure.

The health bars (energy?) were small so it was hard to see what was going on.

I was confused a bit by the staircase. All the walls are represented by black lines, so when I first saw the staircase (also represented by black lines) I thought it was just part of the wall. Eventually I figured it out though.

Overall I agree with other posters above that you should be proud of this game, it is indeed an accomplishment!

Nice to see a game with good AI! I like how you have combined pathfinding and i guess raycasting(?). Fun game overall, maby abit too hard as I struggled on easy :joy:

Using mouse for rotation in these games can make them a little difficult. Like the idea and the AI is impressive. Nice work

The generator concept is actually pretty unique. Don't think I've seen a game that fully revolves around this concept. I only played on normal difficulty but it did seem like even the towers had a bit too much hp (especially when you have all kinds of bullets raining down on you) so that kinda got in the way a bit. The levels seemed to be well thought out so kudos to that.

I had a ton of fun playing it, but I am still not sure if I got all the mechanics. It seemed like sometimes taking out a tower also disabled another, as if there was a power chain. There also where little dots flying roughly between towers. Those facts seemed to be unrelated, though...
