404: Space Not Found by Tom Schneider

[raw]
made by Tom Schneider for LD 40 (JAM)

Finally! After 72 hours we did it! Our first Ludum Dare is over and we are more than happy to present our game: 404: Space not found. Finishing with lots of bug fixes during the last hours we were a little worried of not doing it in time, but here we are, finished (for now)! To sum it up, we had an awesome jam, learned a lot and will definitely join the next LD.

You are in space. As an interstellar delivery boy/girl, you gain control about a fleet of spaceships. During your normal working day you transport all kinds of goods to various planets and space-bases. As time passes traffic picks up and you start to run out of space... Watch out for your competitors, even if you don`t like them. Plan your routes carefully. Otherwise you might crash!

Controls: LMB is the only control needed!

Pretty fun concept, I get the feeling you had planned to do a bit more with the random generation but for what it is the gameplay is well implemented. Only real gripe I have with the gameplay is the need to click next on the dialogues.

Visually it evokes a sorta windows 95/dos era sci-fi game feel and I really enjoyed that part of the art.

The music was a little grating and I think needed more variation tonally.

Overall the concept of a space logistics sim is pretty cool.

Thank you very much for your Feedback!

Yeah to be honest, we didnt plan out the random generation too well, which perhaps made us lose some potential there. But we plan to maybe do a bit more on there for after the jam :)

The graphics really make me feel nostalgic for Star Contol  . I liked the character and dialog design, even though they started repeating parts pretty quickly. I wish there was more of it. Great job.

Nice visual consistency and retro feeling vibe and audio. Very basic concept but a good foundation for more mechanics possibly

Haha, I'm so lost with this one. BUT MAN!!! I *REALLY* love the aesthetic of it. So perfectly retro-lovely. The setting, the critters talking, the hex based stuff. Love it.

The mood is really nice for this game. It satisfies my sci-fi hunger. One thing I would suggest that could be improved is the transparency on the dialogue boxes, it's a bit too transparent (or maybe the text colour isn't right?) :)

The game concept is really cool as well and the title fits it well!

Interesting game you have. I got to level 7 where I instantly died! Nice art on your game, pixel art looks great! Also that's cool you have a lot of dialogue, but sometimes it's a bit too much. It feels a bit repetitive up to 7, not sure if the mechanic changes later in the game. Great job implementing a lot of stuff and making the look really polished.

I like the concept and it hits the theme very nice :) I felt like the "story" was a bit to much for my taste, maybe have it skippable? Anyway great idea!

It was fun, I like the humour, the mood, and the arts are pretty fine. It was challenging too, because of the trajectory prediction we have to do after few levels. Very good job, I'm following you to see what you'll bring up the next LD!

Really fun idea! Took a bit to understand what was going on, but I had a lot of fun with a few replays after I did. Awesome concept and pretty well executed, the polish level was pretty high.

At first it seemed way too easy, then I realized what was going on. Great concept and excellent execution. The writing is funny, the pixel art is great.

Only thing was that at one time I sent a ship of mine to a space that was currently occupied but would have been free the next turn and lost. But that's just part of the rules I guess.

Really good entry!
