Wolf Trouble
A Survival Game
Hello everyone. After a brief absence, we (husband & wife) are back with our 4th Ludum Dare entry. We hope you enjoy our little game. Have fun :)
About LD43
This time, we wanted to make a game according to the theme, but still have some freedom if we felt like it. I think the resulting game has a good connection to theme, as the sheep sacrifice / management mechanics are central to your success in the game.
The theme "Sacrifices must be made" translates to sacrificing / selling your sheep in order to survive in our game. And believe me, you must if you want to win :)
Instructions
Every night, increasing number of wolves attack your ranch and you must survive the game for 10 nights in order to win. You can kill the wolves, or sacrifice your sheep to them (walk up to your sheep, press F to pick up, press F again to throw). Wolves are easily distracted by sheep and run away after eating their share. However, one sheep can distract and feed up to 3 wolves. While shooting your gun, beware of the crosshair size as it denotes your shot accuracy. You can fire very quick at the cost of accuracy, or take your time and be accurate.
During the day, you can prepare for the night to come. You can buy stuff from the shop, or manage your sheep. Each of your sheep generate steady income every day, but you can decide to sell your sheep for an instant income, or prefer to breed them to increase your sheep for upcoming days. If you breed them, they won't generate income that day.
Manage your sheep, sacrifice them if you must, but survive at all costs.

I quickly knew how to play.
Graphics and art work was also very good.
Controls felt good.
But I liked the diea and enjoyed palytesting on twitch. Thanks for submitting!
@firesplash-entertainment I don't understand what you mean by input delay, since there is supposed to be none. Do you mean the fact that you can't act for a quarter of a second after taking a shot?
- Nice switch to night
- It feels like a good challenge as you get used to the game
- Dogs going away is an interesting mechanic and almost "realistic". Quite a good idea. Some dogs not going away until they've had their "share", is also interesting.
- Excellent choice of ambient environmental sounds to go with the night but sounds a bit unnaturally repetitive.
- Good idea to have regenerative items to buy in shop. Steak probably too expensive.
- Great simple idea and good concept
- Nice choice of environment - quite "western" style
- Good SFX
Improvements
- Some sheep die too quickly, could act as fodder for next round if they only take some damage
- Game does get progressively quite difficult - maybe should have auto-reload?
- Should have a restart option or menu option
- When moving would be better if character faced direction of line of fire
- Maybe a skill boost or "perk" where you improve aiming speed
- Should be able to throw a sheep back inside
- A sheep died even though it did not get hurt
- Sometimes gun is inaccurate even though directly on target. Whilst possibly somewhat realistic, that can be a little annoying
Overall
- Seems like a pretty good game to me. Whilst somewhat innovate and different by virtue of the theme and theme of the actual environments, this game could probably benefit from some more variety e.g. mechanics and items.
- Overall, enjoyable and quite accurate game mechanics. Good vibes.
Great stuff, keep it up!

No seriously, I really enjoyed this game. It felt extremely well made and polished. The difficulty was high for me. I think the best strategy is to get the shotgun as soon as possible and then try to focus on breeding? My old laptop had a hard time to come up with a decent fps thanks to the really nice graphics. The theme was implemented very well with the "breeding / money making" trade-off.
Last but not least the UI in this game was very nice - someone knows his stuff there.
Thanks for making this and I definitely want to see more of this in the future.
